1) I was already approved so why do I have to see the doc again?

2)what happens at your last pre op appointment?

3) when do you get your surgery date?

4) should I already start my pre op diet now?

5) how many people didn't have to do a 2 week diet?

6) did you have any complications? And if so what?

7) how long were u out of work?

8) how long after the surgery can u have sex?

9) what do I need for the hospital?

10)how many people had children after rny? And does it help boost fertility?

11)what Vitamins do I need to buy?

12)what did u find most helpful after surgery?

13) did u do it alone? Or was somethere to help u during the day?

1) I was already approved so why do I have to see the doc again?

Like DL said to answer all your questions, so have a list ready! Mine saw me to have me sign authorization forms, give me my date for the pre op seminar and me preacription for my primary for the pre op testing.

2)what happens at your last pre op appointment?

My last appointment was all my pre op testing/clearance ekg, chest xray, blood work

3) when do you get your surgery date?

In my original RNY 8 yrs ago I had to appeal for a year and a half, this time I had a revision and it took two weeks to approve and get my surgery date. I had to re schedule because it was too soon!

4) should I already start my pre op diet now?

In my opinion if your surgeon said to loose weight before surgery I would, it definetly would not hurt.

5) how many people didn't have to do a 2 week diet?

I had to do a full liquid diet two weeks prior

6) did you have any complications? And if so what?

In my first RNY I was in tubated and in ICU for 48 hrs But was also 117lbs heavier than I am now. Also Ten days later I was bleeding due to an internal hemorroid and was in the hospital for another 8 days. Other than these my only other complication has been anemia.

Since mine was a revision I was NPO for 48 hours with an NG tube other than that I was okay.

7) how long were u out of work?

The first time I was out a month

This time three weeks

8) how long after the surgery can u have sex?

I waited nine days, till I felt up to it.

9) what do I need for the hospital?

My best friend was chapstick and a Teddy Bear a friend gave me to put on my stomach when I walked or got wheeled for the upper GI

10)how many people had children after rny? And does it help boost fertility?

Sorry not me, had mine prior

11)what Vitamins do I need to buy?

Every surgeon is different and requires different brands/things what I was told to buy was liquid or chewable multi Vitamin, sublingual B12, sublingual Biotin and Calcium citrate with Vitamin D chewable. For my surgeon everyting must be chewable for the first three months.

12)what did u find most helpful after surgery?

Having my husband with me for the first few days

13) did u do it alone? Or was somethere to help u during the day?

No, I was lucky to have my hubby here because I did not do well with the dilaudin or the morphine and was throwing up blood after each dose. If he would not have been there I would of thrown up all over myself each time. He was also very helpful the first couple of times getting me out of the bed and into the chair, walking and back in bed.

Hope this helps! And remember everyone's experience is different and this was mine, just wanted to share so you get an idea!

I'm trying to stabilize (doctor's orders) at about 165 so 120lbs lost. I know it sounds ridiculous but it has been much harder than I expected to increase my calorie intake after months of averaging just under 1300 calories a day. I must confess though - I love the new me!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
