I really miss the crunch of foods, ie like potato chips or tortilla chips. I'm looking for something that will satisfy my need to crunch. It's kind of like having the munches with no idea what to munch...any suggestions?

I remember missing crunchy food!!! All three of my aunts who had the surgery kept telling me to eat one thing "PORK RINES" now I know people are going to disagree... I must of told then no 50xs before finally giving in at around 1 month post op.... And they were HEAVEN! I took little bites.. Did NOT eat the super hard crunchy ones and just chewed them up until they all but dissolved in my mouth.... Before I ate those I would snack on a couple gerber baby puff treats ... But they're high in sugar and everything else except Protein where as the pork rines have a bunch of protein... :) just a suggestion :)

Thank you for your suggestion. I've never had Pork rinds, and because I don't eat pork at all I'm not sure I'd be able to eat them. But if I get desperate I may just go out on a limb and try them. Thank you innerrelease.

I like to crunch too, I was about 3-4 weeks post op and bought the multi-grain pretzels, of course I would chew them like crazy. They were very satisfying.

You might want to hold off on the crunchies for a couple more weeks. Two weeks out might be a little soon for these ideas but if your doctor has OK'd it, great. The Special K Cracker chips are delicious and come in a number of flavors. You might want to try Kashi Peta Crisps as well. Super crunchy, 130 cals for an 11 crisp serving and they come in sea salt and salsa flavors. I love these things and they definitely help with the crunchy cravings.

DLCoggin-yes, I agree. I'm not planning on trying anything yet. I was looking for something more like roasted veggies or something like that as carbs of any kind are not yet part of my diet. I did just come across a receipe for bakes kale chips that I'm going to try. Thanks for your input. At 2 weeks post op I'm not wanting to screw things up or make things difficult for later.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
