Insurance Companies... Oh What Fun!

Recommended Posts

And the fun starts, all my paperwork was submitted by my surgeon at the end of August. Then they come back and say they needed medical clearance from my PCP. So I had to make an appt to see her last week, and she wrote on her letter head that she gave me a per-op evaluation and that I had medical clearance. And of course, that'sssss not good enough.

Now the insurance wants a more detailed letter from her stating that she recommends me for the surgery, and reasons, and then medical clearance. Blah blah so on and so on.

They are such a pain in the a**.

It can be SUCH a pain. How is it the insurance companies have the right to do that? I know they are trying to not pay for any unneeded surgery...but your PCP reccommended you for a reason. Good luck hon. Crossing my fingers for you.

Good luck!! I know I am about to play that waiting game myself. Everything should be submitted this week. And I am already quite the nervous Nelly, so I am sure I am going to be worried sick hoping to get that green light of approval. I hope things work out for you!

It's just frustrating because I've done everything else they asked of me, kept all my appts, evaluations, psych eval. Took time off from work, and they still want to be a pain. Sorry, I'm just venting here. But thanks for the well wishes. :)

Wth smack them!! Now I'm mad! It's not even happening to me Lolz.

123 breathing. Ok I guess you have to hold it in & get mire detail paper. When you get the paper & your surgery take the paper and tell them wipe you ..... With it.

Getting my general physican's letter was the most difficult when I got my clearance. My RNY doctor provided a formatted letter where all your personal doctor had to do was copy it to his letter head and sign. My personal physican was all ok with it but it was getting his staff to get his signature etc. etc. it was all the office red tape that was the pain in the but. The letter was written in a way that gave the insurance company exactly what the ask for etc. etc.

I wonder if I will have to do that. I had a choice to either get a letter of recommendation and have my pcp do monthly weigh ins etc. Or just have the weight loss center do it. So figuring the weight loss center where my surgeon works would know exactly what the insurance company is looking for, I chose that way. Instead of the pcp way

I have been doing all my requirements thru a WLS, but the Insurance still required a letter from my PCP.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
