What Is Protein Doing For My Body

Recommended Posts

This may be a dumb question like i should know this but does getting the correct amount of Protein increase my weight loss? I currently feel stuck at my weight and only get half my protein. If I got it all plus some would I lose more? I am only two weeks out and have lost 14lbs. I want more!! I havent seen a change in like a week. I have to increase exercise also I know this. What kind of exercise do u do?

I'm feeling stuck like I was before surgery.. worst feeling ever. I knew this wouldn't be a quick fix but I thought it'd be different. I know in only two weeks out but hate feeling discouraged already!! :(

I know how you feel. I'm four months out and have lost 58 lbs. my weight and inches lost have have stopped decreasing despite diet and exercise. The last month and a half ive only lost 2lbs. Sorry to whine but it's so freaking depressing.

Well the Protein helps your body heal.after surgery. 2 weeks post op the 14 pounds is pretty good from what I have read from other posts. When you get cleared for exercise besides walking you will lose a little faster. You just need to let your body heal

Protein also helps you build/rebuild muscle tissue (as well as the healing) or also helps your body metabolize other nutrients, here is a link to some info if you want more detail :)

You are only two weeks out... give your body some time to first of all heal, then you will be cleared for exercise at which time it will start to melt off. Losing a pound a day is pretty good in my book.

Yes, getting ALL of your daily Protein will absolutely help you lose weight. But that's just part of the story and it very well may not be the most important part.

  • Protein is critically important in the healing process following surgery.
  • Protein is used extensively to repair and regenerate damaged tissue.
  • Protein is a key player in helping the body fight off bacterial and viral infections.
  • Protein will help minimize muscle loss during rapid weight loss.
  • And protein will help reduce Hair loss to a minimum.

Your body needs protein!! A lot of it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
