Which Protein Shakes are you doing? Also the test tube looking Proteins you can put into ice cube trays with toothpicks and tin foil on top and freeze like a icy-pop. Also use natural flavored Protein and out into broths, yogurt or cottage cheese. I had RNY April 25th of last year, I also work at a health food store. I hope my suggestions help, best of luck to you

Lactose intollerance is not uncommon after RNY surgery. Folks who never had an issue with "milk" products can find that they do for a time after surgery. After being away from it for a month, you can try it again to see if the intolerance goes away.

If you're now eating your Protein vesus drinking it and the problem went away, that may have been it.

Hope you're feeling better.

Im mainly just drinking liquids still. Trying desperately to stay hydrated, but not keeping up very well. I'm lucky to get in 32oz a day. My post op is next week, anxious to see what they say. But as soon as I cut out the protien, the diarrhea stopped

What Protein shakes are you doing. A lot of the shakes have sugar alcohols in them that can cause diarrhea. I had this problem and was so horribly miserable. So many possibilities. But wow you are down a lot I 7 weeks out and only Down 28 since surgery. Also if you haven't tried them yet sugar free Popsicles are the best and help you get your fluids in. Hang in there it will get better.

Have you tries a different type of Protein and Protein Drink?? My friend was drinking a brand that gave her diarrhea. As soon as she changed to a different brand it stopped. Personally unlike muscle milk drinks 20g pro, 160 cal low on sugar. Hope you feel better

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
