Just got back from the cardiologist appt that I needed to clear before getting a surgery date and I'm really upset. My BP was fine, I have had no problems with my heart ever, I have perfect scores on all my cholesterol levels and my EKG was fine, but because my mom had a heart attack at 60 I have to drive all the way back up there on Friday to walk a treadmill! He didn't even ask me if she had any habits that might have triggered a heart attack like drinking A LOT like she does. I work three jobs, live in a four level home, walk 4 times a week but I need to take this stupid test and miss more work before missing all the work I will have to miss after surgery. On top of it all he kept saying "Why do you need surgery? You can't do it yourself?"

" You don't need to lose that much weight, can't you do it on your own?"

By the time I left there to sit in 35 minutes of traffic my blood pressure was boiling !

LOL. Well hopefully everything will work out Friday and they don't torture you too much. I had that stress test years ago. It was horrific for me but that is because I smoked back then and just couldn't breath afterwards so I freaked out. Wouldn't be bad now since quitting just a few weeks ago I tackled to large flights of stairs without having to take a break or gasping for air. I was very impressed with myself lol

Haha well since I have to climb stairs to go anywhere in my house I should ace this!

Thanks for the support.

The passing or not passing is not what I was upset about, it is his random decision for requiring it.

When I see people on oxygen getting this surgery, I don't understand what the problem is for me. He told me I would do fine, and I passed all the tests, BP, low cholesterol, no complaints ever but is still making me do this, it feels like someone just needs an extra paycheck on my dime and time.

Not to mention his serious lack of sensitivity. I will be calling my surgeons office tomorrow to let them know what's going on.

So I let my scheduler know about yesterday's appointment and it goes without saying she was upset. She said " what makes him feel like he can second guess a bariatric specialists judgement on weight issues?" she said she would be letting the office manager know what was happening and to plan on going in for the stress test but she would let me know if anything changed. She said all they required was the EKG.

So I went to get surgical clearance from my pcp today and told her about my dealings with the cardiologist and she completely agreed with me. She said my EKG, bloodwork were good and my blood pressure and diabetes are all under control and there are no signs of any problems. I am exercising without trouble so there was no need for a stress test regardless of my moms heart attack.

She said she would clear me for surgery and make a note in the report that as far as cardiology I was fine and cleared in her opinion.

The scheduler at the surgery center said she was going to make sure the office was aware and see if they would take that into consideration and waive the other Dr.'s clearance.

We shall see...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
