Pre Surgery Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have completed all the prerequisites for weight loss surgery, but before a surgery date can be scheduled, I need to lose 22 more pounds. I recently lost 7 pounds, but it took a month with a lot of hard work. My metabolism must be very slow. Any suggestions? Do you think they will eventually schedule it since I am so close to my goal weight?

Most times it is a requirement that insurance companies have. And what I have read surgeons like to see you are commited to the changes that have to be made after surgery. I have read in research if the doc tells you to lose you have to lose no way around it

My surgeon wanted me to lose 20-24 pounds before surgery. I lost about 14 pounds and they scheduled the surgery. The main thing they want is a better diet so that your liver will shrink. It makes it easier on you and the surgeon for the surgery because they have to move your liver aside so they can get to your stomach.

When we diet the first organ to lose weight and fattiness is the liver. :) It's also the first organ to gain if we don't eat right so it's important to keep a good diet before your surgery to keep your liver the healthiest.

That is great to hear. I just worry that it will take months to lose it. I am crossing my fingers to have the surgery before January, since I me my deductible for the year.

I was on this last year and it really helped. I am the same way. I can lose just very slowly. I found an over the counter one that seems to be helping me now. Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
