October Surgery Dates

Recommended Posts

Hey' date=' I am having the same exact problem. Tomorrow will be exactly 1 week and I can't keep down any Liquid Protein (I have a few flavors and brands that I bought and liked pre-surgery), I now hate Jello (ewww) and I can't stand chicken broth anymore. I've been drinking Water, some with cystal light packages and sugar free Popsicles. I am praying that at my post-op appointment tomorrow my doctor will find a reasonable solution to this, because these Protein Drinks are now working out for me :'([/quote']

Me too! I loved Unjury Protein before but now it really hurts to get them down no matter how slow I drink them and they are gross. I am also experiencing pain at night and therefore I have to take pain medication which makes me groggy in the morning. I am finding it difficult to get in the 100oz of fluids and 89 grams of protein. Are you taking your Vitamins yet? I am walking but not very fast at all. I had surgery oct 3rd.

I will have my surgery on the 31st.....I am flip flopping between being excited and being really scared. I keep asking myself if I'm doing the right thing.....then I think about all the discomfort I have just walking sometimes, how difficult it is for me to take good hygiene care of myself and all the other things that obesity causes and I tell myself this is right for me. So why am I scared?

It is normal to be scared. You are scared of the changes that you have to make from the way you have eaten and exercised your whole life until now. You are apprehensive on letting go of the food that got us here in the first place and maybe scared of finding out why you chose food to comfort you. It is like any drug people turn to to avoid abuse they may have had growing up. But just know you are doing the right thing and taking the right steps so that your past doesn't dictate your future

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
