One of the most difficult things I've had to deal with so far is losing my hair... My weight always made me really self conscious about the way I looked but my hair...is something I dedicate a lot of effort into because I feel wonderful when it's done. Now 5 months after my surgery I've lost almost all of it. It's thin and weak and comes out in huge clumps.

I could deal with the torture of not being able to eat a lot of the things I loved, I could deal with the pain I get occasionally even throwing up what my stomach rejects... I've lost 95 lbs and cant wait for what is to come...But losing my hair has me feeling terrible. I don't know how to deal with it. :(

Try taking Biotin 5000mcg once a day, i had the same problem before surgery. My hair was so thin you could see my scalp, now its getting really thick.

Lol mine looked awesome too!! I had my surgery 3/26 so it's been 5 months and some ... The Protein I try to get as much as possible but j know it's not what I should be getting. After surgery my stomach has become really sensitive.. So I basically just do what I can. I'm definitely going to start drinking more Protein shakes to see if it helps.. What about you? When did you get yours done?

The Biotin really helps. I started losing my hair about three months out. My doctor had me take a larger dose of biotin then when I first started. It has worked wonders. It's also good for your nails.

I started losing hair at month 3. Researched and got really proactive about getting in my protein... this is a must. Greek yogurt and Protein Shakes will help. Then I started taking Biotin and I too use the garnier fall fight. I can say that after a scary month and a half... the hair has stopped falling out. Even if you cant eat meat to get your Protein, there are other ways. I believe this is one of the major keys of working the pouch.

Protein is a MUST. My hair is thin to begin with and I am worried as well. I make sure I get minimu 80 grams of protein daily no matter what !!!! I also take Biotin..... My doctor's office could not stress enough that if you take your protein you will not loose your hair - and you better believe I take my protein !!!!

My hair started falling out like crazy about a week or two ago. I am 4 months and one week post op. I really thought I was doing well with my Protein but I guess it's time to start start drinking a shake for Breakfast every day again. I was taking Biotin in the beginning but I stopped when I learned here and at the nutritionist that it's the protein factor that makes you lose your hair. I have noticed lately my hair is much drier that it used to be. I used to get compliments on how shiny and silky my hair was. I'm going to run out today and get the garnier Shampoo Fter I take my biotin and drink a 30 gram protein shake!

I double scoop all Protein shakes. I get approximately 100grams of Protein daily...once I did this the shedding stopped right away. Plus weight loss picked up. Everything I in jest nowadays has some protein or I don't eat it. I'm 5 months out. hair loss is a protein deficiency I was told by a dermatologist.

Do you think it would be good to start taking the Biotin now? I am 3 weeks out...

I found the sublinguals one, it works long term so I would definetly start asap. I use the 5000mcg.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
