December Bandsters in February!

Recommended Posts

ok I think my challenge will be exercise this month too as I really dont have any restriction so I not really losing too much. I do go for my second fill on Feb 8th! I am hoping I will have some restriction then. So for Feb I would like to exercise 20 days of the 28 days of Feb. I work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week so that can be hard. My job involves alot of walking but alot of sitting sometimes too depends what is going on. I do have a gym at work to work out in but most of the time I am too busy. I love my gym I go to though it has free child care which is such a blessing!

Now onto Breakfast ideas -- Protein Shakes or bars are always quick but not that tasty. I like yogurt, whole wheat toast (if you can get it down) with Peanut Butter ( real pb not Jif) I have a great recipe for Quice Here it is--

Get a frozen pie crust- bake it covering the edges for 5-10 min at 350. Beat 10 eggs and 2 T. of mild together. Add a can of mushrooms or fresh. Diced onions, green pepper, tomatoes or what ever you like. I also take brown and serve sausage links or patties and nuke them for a 20 seconds then I press them between paper towels to get rid of some extra fat. Chop them up and put it in the egg mixure. Dump all that in the pie crust and cook at 350-375 for about 35-45 min whenever it is done Last sprinkle with cheese. This is good warmed up so you can make it the night before if you wish. I usually make this for my family and I eat the inner part and leave the crust. It is very filling and high in Protein. I think you can also poor this type of mixture in muffin tins and make egg muffins out of it but I have never tried it.

oatmeal is good and warm this time of year-- I know it is best to get "steel cut oats" b/c it is healthier and doesnt digest as fast so it is a better carb.

Hey all! I posed this question on the January site, but I think folks had shifted here already. Here goes:

I just sprained my ankle and the only relief comes from taking aleve (naproxin). Can someone remind me why taking aleve or ibuprofin is bad for us? Tylenol does nothing.

Thanks!

As for the breakfast question folks were talking about...

I typically throw Protein powder in a blender with soy milk and either frozen fruit or Peanut Butter depending upon the flavor of powder. That magic bullet blender is great for dashing out the door with Protein in hand!

When I have time, I put egg whites and salsa together for a scramble. Sometimes with a little feta, too.

On occasion, cottage cheese with ground flax seeds or salmon is tasty.

Lastly, I bought some kind of "super oats" from bariatriceating.com . They are apple-cinnamon and have an amazing 35 grams of protein in them!

I know Ibuprofen and Aleve ( naprosyn) can be hard on the stomach which is why some surgeons say not to take it. My surgeon feels ibuprofen is fine.

I e-mailed my doctor about ibuprofen because Tylenol was NOT working on my headaches. His assistant told me that it would be fine to take ibuprofen.

The conflicting information (as always!) concerns me a bit, but I'd rather take one dose of ibuprofen than multiple doses of Tylenol to get the same effect.

Hi to everyone, glad I found the Dec bandsters here. I just got back from my first fill today. Saw Dr De La Garza in Monterrey, was done under flouroscopy....it actually didn't hurt much at all. Got to watch it all and see the barium go through the band, he tried 2cc's but it closed off completely, went down to 1.2 and we got the restriction he was looking for. My appetite has been decreased so far, and I was able to eat a small meal with no discomfort. Now I hope to start losing faster!

I remember hearing a lot about no Advil from this site, by my doc actually *recommended* it during the recovery phase! I'm the same way - Tylenol does nothing for me.

Siyah - Anything I can do to help since you've got a sprained ankle? I'm not too far away... I'll be out in Bremerton tomorrow where I don't have cell service, but feel free to call or e-mail if I can do grocery shopping or something to help next week! :P

Annie...Looks like you're off to a good start on your challenge!! Woo hoo!!

As for the ibuprophen and advil discussion....i think that if you were taking it on a regular basis, THEN it might be an issue, but if you are just taking it on occasion for headaches, pains etc., then it shouldn't be a big deal..

Jill and Siyah...thanks for the great b.fast ideas...i love the idea of the mini quiches w/bits of sausage and cheese in them! They'd be perfect for me!!

Hi everyone. I am new to this thread. I was banded Dec 15 by Dr. Cobourn in Mississagu, ON. I am doing really good. I am down to 223 from my high of 260. When I started my Optifast 2 weeks before my surgery I weighed 253. So I am now down 30 lbs from that weight. I am feeling great. Like someone said the lapbound is a tool and spark people keeps me on track with my calories.

Found out last night that I cannot eat any spicy food. It gets stuck and burns just as much coming up as going down. Lesson learned. I went to an East Indian 25th Anniversary Party. It was a great time, but I guess I can't eat the spicy stuff.

Someone was asking for a Breakfast idea. My girlfriend gave me this recipe and it's great.

1/2 c. Kashi Go Lean Crunch - 115 cal

1 tbsp hemp bits or hearts - 56 cal

1 tbsp ground flax seed - 56 cal

1 tbsp slivered almonds - 40 cal

1 tbsp unsweetned/unsalted Peanut Butter - 90 cal

1/2 c. your favorite yogurt.

Mix it all together very well. And enjoy.

The calorie count on the first 5 ingredients is 356 than just add the calories from your yogurt. It's great. I have tried it without the Peanut Butter, but that is what makes it so good I think, it's just not the same. It's very filling and helps keep pipes clean.

I added the calorie counts on all the ingredients in case you don't want to use the hemp bits or flax seed. Maybe this should be posted to the recipe thread? Is it OK to post here?

I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone.

I did have to go to the bathroom and slime it up into the toilet!! I Will definitely NEVER do that again (I hope!!!)

G'day Folks :)

Hows everyone going??

I'm back home after my few days away :)

Catching up on the posts.

I tell you ............I need more spare time in my life :D

Re Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen. I heard it can (in some cases) cause erosion on the band. The medication if it sits a while in the small upper pouch casues changes the surrounding tissue. (Hence erosion).

February Challenge: Hey Everyone, I've taken on your idea to make a February Challenge. Mine is to increase my excercise. I am limited to what excercise I can do (fractured knee) (Severe Arthritis in my back). So I made a pact with myself to walk each morning for 30 mins, its more about getting moving, rather than aerobic excercise :) I got off to a good start this morning, I'll keep you posted :)

Can anyone help?? Does anyone here have the recipe for Mock Fried Rice?

Sirena63: Welcome to the Forum. Sure sounds like you had a nice postive experience with your fill and sounds like you have a good restriction - Lucky You. I had a fill under fluroscopy also just last Thursday and my restriction is also good. I was very uncomfortable for 2 days and went back to liquids. I'm managing some more vitamised foods now, but able to eat only a small amount. Good Luck with your weight loss. All fingers crossed you lose at a good and Healthy rate.

Ahubor: Welcome to the forum. Please come back often and share :)

CHEERS to all, Happy Healthy Eating :)

LOL-- Well an egg roll has little to do with eggs! =) It is a fried crisy rolled wafer filled with cabbage, meat, bean spouts and occasionally a little scrambled egg. It is horrible for you of course-- fattening but man are they good!!!!!!! :)

The mock fried rice is listed under recipes-- I bought the stuff and I think I am going to make it tonight ! Only thing is dh wont eat it I'm sure.

Anne and beth- welcome!

Yes, and these were Homemade eggrolls!!! I think it was the fried casing part that was the problem!!! Plus, I think I took too big of a bite, but live and (painfully) learn!!

I am going to try the mashed caulliflower recipe tonight!! :)

I am up for a challenge (of course we are already 5 days into the month!). I am not budging on the scale and have no restriction. I have not had my first fill yet (due 2/15) but I am committed to my exercise. I VOW to do 20 days of exercise this month. That is 5 days a week min.!

I need a fil..waaaaahhhhh. I am trying to eat well and have been slipping a bit of late but really hope to keep from gaining until I see the doctor.

My favorite breakfast is a poached egg and a turkey breakfast sausage (shady hill or jenni-o) they are so yummy and it feels like a big treat. I only eat that once a week and usually stick to my Protein shakes in the morning.

The kashi concoction sounds good and I think I could use more fiber!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
