I have a few months to go before surgery but I was curious about if surgery changes the spices you can use. Are there ones the doc says you can't have or is it your choice still?

Ive never heard of such a thing, but i prefer not to use spicy ones out of fear. However, many dietitians tells each of us something different. Go with what youre comfortable with.

You might want to stay away from the really spicy spices e.g. cayenne and jalapenos for a while. There's a lot of healing still going on and ulcers are a possibility. Other than that, I've never heard of any specific spice restrictions either.

Before surgery, I couldn't handle spicy food at all. And im an Indian lol. Now I live on jalapeños and red chilli paste :) I love it but you may get a bit gassy with spices

Tammy, do you have a good chicken/lamb korma. Recipe? That is one of my fav Indian foods!

Is it possible to do a healthy version of it?

1 onion , chopped

2 garlic cloves , roughly chopped

thumb-sized piece ginger , roughly chopped

4 tbsp korma paste (I can give you the recipe for this too)

4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts , cut into bite-sized pieces

50g ground almonds , plus extra to serve (optional)

400ml chicken stock

150g pot 0% fat Greek yogurt

small bunch coriander , chopped

Put the onion, garlic and ginger in a food processor and whizz to a paste. Tip the paste into a large high-sided frying pan with 3 tbsp Water and cook for 5 mins. Add the korma paste and cook for a further 2 mins until aromatic.

Stir the chicken into the sauce, then add the ground almonds, stock. Give everything a good mix, then cover and simmer for 10 mins or until the chicken is cooked through.

Remove the pan from the heat, stir in the yogurt and some seasoning, then scatter over the coriander and flaked almonds, if using.

It is usually served with rice, but rotis made with whole meal flour are better

Should have roughly 370 cals per serving with about 42grm of Protein. About 4-5grms of fat.

:) anytime! I have a doc who is awesome! I am allowed to eat anything. I avoid all sugars.. I do eat rice, a tbsp or so and Pasta ( the whole wheat kind) about 7-8 pcs but that's occasionally. I don't dump on anything apparently only when I eat too fast it all comes back up.

I have always hated Indian food somehow.. Weird i know lol. But I do eat a roti now and then, specially since my daughter loves them.

I am a big glutton when it comes to crispy fried stuff and bcoz I don't dump, I have to fight hard to avoid it. I'm 3 months and 1 week out, have lost 82 lbs..

Rotis are thin Indian breads and are much healthier than nans. They are rolled thin and the dough is made from flour, oil and salt. Very yum and if you all roll them nice and thin.. You can eat a full roti lol

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
