Found out tonight what happens when you eat to fast. Can you say OUCH and YUCK. it wasn't what I ate or how much just to fast. This is the first time this has happen to me and am almost 5 weeks post op. My hubby was so great he was standing there rubbing my back as I was bent over the sink. What I great support he is to me. But wow never want to do that again. I feel awful for all of you who can't keep anything down my prayers are sure with you.

I have been struggling with this, although it is more often than not simply my body rejecting the food (beef and can salmon are OUT) but I did take a large bite of purée carrots and it wasn't too good either :(

I think we all have done "things" that we realize "wow I should not have done that" - LOL. You live and learn. My problem was learning to chew my food, I would get soooooooo sick if I did not chew. This is kind of gross but I would know the second I swallowed that this was not going to be good. I would get the "foamies" i would not spit up food or anything but would have constant very foamy syliva spit ups, I would have a fever, stomach pains that would last from any where from a hour to 12 hours. Believe me..... I learned to chew !!!

We also learn quick of what foods we can eat/tolerate and what we cant. When I try new foods I do it in very small amounts and chew, chew, chew, chew, chew.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
