Banded Bikers II

Recommended Posts

Finally a ride! Rode from San Antonio to outside of Dallas (technically Forney) yesterday. Here are my lessons learned:

  • When you have something called "Cool Thighs" that goes over hot parts of the bike, you should actually use it on a long trip. Especially when stuck in stop and go traffic in Austin.
  • Don't put rain pants on until they are actually needed otherwise your pants are wet from the inside sauna when you finally take them off. Although I think maybe I melted away 5 inches from each thigh.

Other than a little rain when I got up here it was a great ride. My longest solo trip so far. I hope the weather is just as cooperative on the ride home. And I need to find a way around Austin because the traffic is just awful, which I knew anyway.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! :peace:

Hi all you fellow BIKERS! The sun in shining in OKla. today! Got on my bike last night and a check engine light came on, bummer! no riding for me today. Have to get my brother inlaw down here and see if its something we can fix or if my babee is going to the shop. Counting down till I get banded. Starting over on pre-op diet today. Nothing but liquids now. Good thing though cause I can't seem to control my self once I put soild foods in. Man do I need this band to stop this cycle. LOL Hope you all are having a great weekend.

Question:

I'm being banded on the July 24th and starting a new desk job on the 1st. I was supposed to coach motocycle classes on the 28th. Told them I would'nt be able to handle all the walking on the range and bending over all day. I'm supposed to work again on the 11th. Do you think I will be up to it by then? Right now it wears me out and takes me a couple days to recover as it is. How soon can you bend over with out pain?

They were stopped at a red light...a car pulled up by them and had seen the license plate from CO...and he man asked them if they were nuts to be down there in summer!..lol..They agreed!... I am so jealous that y'all are gettign to ride...huge sighhhhhh...I think it is time to learn how..haha...So many from here are goign to Sturgis..they are trying to get us to just drive up there with them, BUT...hubby is just now gettign to put soem weight on leg..and he is on crutches..for those of you have been before..it is not very good place for a man on crutches who cant put all his weight on leg..haha.. We will pass this year, but may see you all next yr. nite nite and sweet dreams!....deb

Renee, the port location actually hurts the longest, well it did for me. I don't know that it will stop you though. The concern at first is actually a stamina thing because you're not getting that many calories. The further you are in establishing your eating of solids again I think should dictate your schedule.

Hey Deb! I've been to Canyon many times in a cage and it is beautiful. I'm hoping to ride through Colorado next year. This will be my first trip to Sturgis and I'm really excited about it. I think you're wise in not pushing the hubby to make the trip. Just plan on next year!

I'm heading back to SA tomorrow. Looks like the weather will be good!

Phew...657 miles this weekend. My longest solo trip ever! It was a gorgeous day in Texas for the ride home. Instead of sticking to 35 I crossed over on 190 and then down 281. Pretty scenery and not much traffic. Three weeks to Sturgis! Woohoo!! I'm soooo ready!!

Needles Hwy is awsome! The whole trip was great! I'm really envious of everybody going this year.

Looks like I won't be going anywhere for awhile. Ck engine light came on when I fired her up this weekend. She's not firing on the back cylinder so to the shop she goes! To top that off my truck broke down yesterday and the only wheels I have right now is my daughters 250. Get me around town but not good for the hwy. And all this when the rain finally stops. Well I've whined enough. Better get to bed. Take care everybody>

Sunshine in Texas at last! Now I'm going to complain about it...lol I did the advanced motorcycle safety course yesterday and I fried!!!!! Would've been nice to have a little cloud cover. Okay, now I'm done complaining...lol I'm working towards Road Captain certification for my HOG chapter. That was the first step. CPR course this Wednesday. Then I need to schedule the First Aid course and get my practice trips in with my sponsor. I'm the LOH officer so we wanted to get some women RC's so we can take off on our own rides. We have three in training...go us!

I hope everyone's getting some nice riding weather as well!

Oh heck yeah, Carol. :whoo:Matter of fact, after we got thru test driving the equipment :biggrin1: we went on several rides. A couple we had to dodge the showers but it was great. Like yesterday, we lit out from here and just tooled off into the countryside, going nowhere fast. :) Got several miles out of town and watched someone getting dumped on, over to the west about 10 or 12 miles. :rain:Joy didn't want to take the superslab back, so we stayed on Hwy 75 and just sort of enjoyed the ride and the cool temps. When we hit town, I treated her to a DQ Blizzard :clap2: and we sat outside and watched the traffic whiz by. It was great! You should have stopped by here when you went to Forney. I've actually got some relatives that live there, too. :)

Hey Randy, glad to hear all the equipment is working well, including the bike. :) I'm glad Joy's feeling better. I didn't know ya'll lived out that way. Maybe next time I'm up there. We were on a mission to get my friend's house organized so we didn't have much play time. I rode to work today and was surprised once again by that nasty old rain. I really hope the weather isn't fierce next week when I head for Sturgis. Sure ya'll don't want to go along? Still have 1/2 of the tent and an air mattress available...lol I'm riding up with one of the guys from my chapter and some of his friends. I don't quite know the route yet but we're heading up through Oklahoma so we have to be sailing through the DFW area.

Tell joy 'Hi' for me! :peace:

Carol, will do. And I'm still thinking about it. LOL

I thought some of you folks might enjoy checking out some pictures from the Run For The Wall 2007. This link goes to Rolling Thunder on Memorial Day. Three of the last four pictures are the Pentagon Parking lot and about half a million bikes. Wooohoooo! I did that ride two years ago. It's an awesome sight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
