I had my surgery Monday and I've been home for a few days. The time in the hospital was rough. When I first came out of surgery, I felt as if I couldn't breathe and was very nauseous! I had to be placed on oxygen and received zofran. Once I got home and got my medicine, everything fell into place Wednesday evening. Thursday was a 100% improvement. I was able to go to a few stores Friday. Everything is going down ok with little to no nausea. I'm thankful for All the information this board has given me. I actually printed out dstrollery's (sp?) be informed post to take to the hospital. I'm feeling really good about my recovery so far. Also thankful that God has allowed the surgery and recovery to go so well.

I had my surgery Monday as well. I also dealt with nausea right after. Nikki- how much are you able to get down? I've been able to drink really well the last 2 days.(almost makes me nervous that I'm not having a problem drinking at all)

Ok I am able to get 40-50 oz down, now I couldn't do that until yesterday. Are you just full or is it a different issue like, makes u sick?? I'm hoping a veteran will chime in. I am concerned that you could get dehydrated.

I, too had surgery last Monday week and I have not had any trouble eating or drinking. It also kind of makes me a little worried that I still want to eat.

Be careful. I think eating/tolerating solids too early caused my stall.

During your first week after surgery most folks can't take in much. It's VERY important to get your Fluid in. You don't want to wind up back in the hospital for dehydration. Do what you have to to get it in. Sip it but, keep it with you and sip it again after 1 minute. Your pouch is healing, and yup it can be sore or feel painful to swallow but, try a different temperature Fluid and different flavorings. The liquid you put in those Protein shakes count towards your fluids for the day so kill two goals at once and find a Protein shake that works for you that you make by adding Water to it. Two Protein Shakes and you got in 30-50 grams of Protein and 16 oz of Water.

I did have discomfort drinking plain water. My pouch would tighten up or get crampy but, I forced myself to keep taking sips...it works. If you're really having issues with lots of air getting in while sipping then you may be gulping more air...change cups etc. SF Popsicles also count towards your fluid goals and those go down much slower. licking a SF popsicle or sucking on it helps wake up your pouch too because it really goes down so slowly.

It does get better but, you have to push yourself to do the drinking of at least your water. Protein and shakes are the next thing to go for. Fluid first...protein next were my docs words to me. Proteins will help you heal so you do need them.....keep trying different Protein Shakes until you like one enough to get it to go down :) YOU CAN DO IT!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
