Hi everyone. I have a pretty question and I hope it's I'm to ask this. I'm a little concerned and was wondering if I could get some advice from post op patients. I am 6 days post op and my bowels movements are concerning me. I have bouts of diarrhea that are extremely foul smelling. At first they were black and green watery and looked like pieces of in digested parsley floated around the bowl. It smelled like a combination of a medicinal smell mixed in with a dried blood smell. When I went to flush toilet the the bowl was covered with a thick yolk like substance that would not flush completely unless I flushed multiple times and then had to use a toilet brush to scrub the rest off. Now, in the least couple of days the diarrhea colour has changed to an orangey yellow colour with the same disturbing fowl smell and still very yolks where no matter how many times I flushed it did not clean off so I had to Scrub with the brush again. I have no pain, no fever. I feel ok. Is the serious? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!!!

As long as you're not seeing red or black "tarry" stools, I wouldn't worry about it. Red or black could indicate some bleeding and you would want to notify your doctor right away.

I was told before leaving the hospital not to freak out ... But been there and I was worried. First the smell is always bad... I don't eat much and still! (Sorry ppl lol) the loose bowels are because you haven't eaten enough to bring it all together. It's all normal and okay. There was extensive work done in there and its working great!

Congrats & welcome!

Probably nothing to worry about but I would definitely mention it to the doctor on your follow up visit. You should probably have a follow up scheduled for 1 - 2 weeks post-op. That's the purpose of that visit... to check in on how you're doing and see what questions have come up. Good luck.

Had almost the same thing when I first came home and after a few days to a week it went away.

You should be ok unless it does not stop then tell your doctor. But should go away

In the beginning after surgery your body is crazy. At least your pooping. I wasn't after surgery till like 1 1/2 weeks.

I had the exact same thing...nothing you explained was any different than what I had. I am now about a month out and I don't have any of that. I do advise a stool softner later though because (sorry for this next bit) after the real tummy stage I was like heck no I am not taking a stool softner but I paid for it one night I had to go so bad and it literally took me over an hour. It was a miserable thing.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
