Anne: So how are you doing? We haven't heard from you and starting to get worried. I have you in my prayers.

Hey Everyone!

Thank you all for your well wishes. I haven't felt much like using a computer, since I have to do that daily and only took 1 day off for my surgery. Luckily, I had the weekend to recover... but by the end of my work day, I was so beat I just had to rest.

The surgery was successful. I had an endoscopy first and everything w/ my stomach looks great. I feel less pain this time and am trying to figure out if this is because my insides were use to the band and this is not such a dramatic difference than when I was first banded... or if I used my Morphine pump more this time and it helped me heal faster. My only complaint is that I got some serious chest congestion and the coughing has been hard... Imagine my big butt laying over a pile of pillows just so I can cough a couple of times... not a pretty picture :)

I am on clear fluids the rest of this week and move to pureed next week. My first post-op appt is tomorrow and I think I will bounce back more quickly than the last time. The only weight that has really come off is the excess I gained just before this second surgery. I already know the doc is going to make me wait 6 weeks before my first fill, so this will be my next challenge.

Thank you all for your support.

Anne, so glad that all is well. Please give yourself time to heal! Just try to move around as much as you can - comfortably. That will also help w/that nasty congestion. Take care!:)

Good luck, Anne. I'm sorry you're even have to do this, but I definitely can relate. I don't think I found the second time around on liquids/soft foods as tough as the first time around. Maybe it won't be too bad for you either.

Take care..

Leatha,

I agree, it has been a much easier ride this time.... pain, food, energy... Not sure why, but I am grateful. I started pureed foods and I even feel like I have more restriction than I had at this stage the last time.

Now, I am looking forward to getting back to the gym... then maybe I will really see the weight begin to fall.

Donali, Maurice, New Hope, Penni, Jennye, Vera, Darci, Neicy, Nancy, Leatha, Theresa, Betty, Michelle (shellyj), Michelle (LaMadam) and Alexandra..... THANK YOU, you all are the best and if I accidentally forgot someone... please forgive me and know that I appreciate you as well.

So sorry it's taken me so long to get around to reading all these posts - so glad it's all over for you Anne, and hope you are bonding with Berpitha ll ! Thinking of you, and hope the liquid phase speeds by for you - take care of yourself and don't be rushing back to the gym!

(((((((((hugs))))))))))

Thanks Bright!

I just noticed how great you are doing... down 65lbs!!! That is fantastic. I think it is time for you to bless us with more of your beautiful before and after pictures.

I will have to wait until I get to solids to know for sure, but I have a feeling that my new band won't have the same affect on me as the original 'Berpitha'... I am going to have to think of a new name if that exasperating experience of over emphasized burps does not return... I am keeping my fingers crossed... how embarrassing it was :)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
