Feeling Very Defeated

Recommended Posts

Well honestly I'm not sure how I feel right now. My surgery was scheduled for next Thursday. I've been jumping through their hoops, lost over the 40% they wanted me to. Today I have my pre op appointment. They drew labs, prescribed all the thing I'm going to need to take afterwards, even talked to the anestesalogist. Just for the to tell me that the psych doesn't think I'm ready. I feel like I failed. I feel like I'm letting my husband and son down. I feel like this was my last chance.

I just hope my work doesn't decide to be douches about the time I need off.

Have they given you a new surgery date? Have you talked to the pshchologist for an explanation of his/her concerns? Pshcy evals are usually pretty dynamic and can change pretty quickly following a meeting or two. I wouldn't panic. Just get the details and let us know what they say. Bumps in the road won't stop you from getting to your destination!!

No new date, no explanation. The psych they want me to see is on vacation until the end of September.

My psych decide the same thing and put my surgery on hold (ended up being almost a year!) BUT in that time I was able to make great strides with my mental stability and that preceded the major life changes I was able to make which have been incredibly helpful in the aftermath of surgery, I hope all the best do you and things work out the best for your situation :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
