It was hard to get used to at first for me now I love it and can not sleep without it. I tried the full mask at first then went to the nose mask. I used a chin strap at first but then learned to keep my mouth shut. I would suggest you work on it every night and try to get used to it. My doctor insisted on a 2 months constant use for new dx cpapers before he will set a surgery date. I think he does that because his one death post op was a noncompliant sleep apnea pt who never wore his cpap and died sleeping on the couch.

Okay so last night I lasted 4 hours. I'm getting there. It's hard when I'm used to tossing from side to side and really can't do that.

It will get better every night. Just keep at it. Pretty soon you it will be second nature and you won't be able to sleep without it. Wishing you restful nights.

I got results of sleep study and have sleep apnea. Need to pick up a machine! I guess it's going to help but apprehensive to say the least!!!

I love my cpap machine, because I am nolonger falling asleep during the day. " It is a like a breath of fresh air"

It took me 4 different masks to find the right one. I have the smallest nasal pillows out there and it's great. My pressure is only at a 6, but I sleep longer and better than ever before. I used to roll around but now I wake up in exactly the same position I fell asleep in. It freaks my husband out- he keeps poking me toads sure I'm alive lol. I can't wait to never need it again, but I'm glad I have it now.

I have had my CPAP for a week now and wake up after 4-5 hrs and can't go back to sleep. Anyone else have that problem?

Yes I go through periods of that kind of sleep. I know you're not supposed to but I take it off at that point & go back to sleep. If you are on ramp, try turning machine off & let it ramp up again & try to listen to the white noise of the machine & relax. Hopefully you will go back asleep. I've been on Cpap 16 years & will never be off of it. I lost 100 lbs to healthy bmi on my own a few years ago, had new sleep study & doc said OSA was not caused by weight (although that makes it worse) & I will always be on machine due to my head/neck anatomy. I hope that you will be able to come off quickly after surgery.

I hope so Suznc. I am just having a hard time with having to be on it. I don't feel like I am exhaling the whole breathe out before the air pressure is forcing air in it causing me to gasp and panic. I read all the post and see how everyone loves theirs and feel like I am whining about this and that I should like it. All the symptoms like being tired during the day, not waking up rested, and so on I have never had. However, the sleep study showed that I have this condition. I am going to go see an ENT and see what they say. Wish me luck!

I started on my CPAP a couple months before surgery and it took me a while to get use to it. I really had the hang of it at the time of surgery but have been having issues since. I didn't wear it right after surgery because I was sleeping in the recliner and didn't want to move it, convinced each night that I would be able to sleep in my bed the next night. When I started to wear it again it was just like starting over. I felt too congested at first, but that got better, but my machine keeps shooting Water into the hose and gurgling. I end up taking it off.

Have you tried turning down the humidity? Mine does that too unless I turn the humidity pretty low.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
