Anyone drank post surgery? What did you drink? I'm 10 weeks post op and have been following all the rules to a T but my best friend turns 30 next month and she wants to do it up big....going out that night and I know drinking is going yo be involved. So I was thinking....I cant drink beer because if the carbonation and I cant drink the yummy "umbrella drinks" due to all the sugar....don't tell me my only option is straight liquor!!!

Wine? Definitely try it at home first to see how it affects you. I thinki crystal light blueberry lemonade tastes like a mojito ;)

I have made what my husband refers to as 'ghetto martini' crystal light and vodka...it definitely metabolizes differently after surgery so I would try at home first:)

Nooooo!!! Don't do it!!!! I know a guy that didn't wait until his year was up before drinkng and one night he thought he was dying!!!! He went to ER and they said the alcohol had started to eat his stitches/pouch away!! That's why your on this HUGE diet a year out b/c it takes your stomach that long to heal!

I had wine about 2 months post op. no problems, but it goes to your head very very fast. My advise if you want to drink - drink at home with a friend first so you know how your body will react. I know I can never have one drink and drive home again like I did before the surgery.

Is it really worth the sugar/empty calories & the possible effects on your healing tummy? Is it really worth being part of the growing statistics of post-rny alcoholics? It metabolizes quickly, meaning it goes straight to your head, then goes away pretty quickly, setting you up for a potential vicious cycle. I'm not against alcohol in general. I drank a LOT of wine pre-surgery (EVERY night with dinner), but I vow to never touch it again. To me, it's just not worth the risk. I sacrificed many things to have this surgery, Why sabotage myself? Just my 2 cents...

I drinked about 10 weeks out but it was only wine and sangria. I was only able to tolerate 1/2 glass and i felt really drunk! Be careful because after our bypass if you drink it increases your alcohol level way more than a regular person. Do not drink and drive ever after bypass! even if its a half of glass.

But, other than the woosiness i tolerated and didnot get sick.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
