Just Approved For Surgery!

Recommended Posts

I have just been approved for surgery and don't need any extra testing. Waiting for my payment to do through and then will be called for my pre op date and starty nutrition classes next week. So looks like surgery will be in less than a month. Looking for any advice of Protein Shakes to use, Vitamins to take and what I should have for after surgery?? Any advice or info will be appreciated! :)

I am using whey Protein isolate. vanilla cream ( that way I can add fresh fruit or Decaf coffee) it provides 30 g of protein per scoop and if you use 1% milk an additional 8 g. For my shake I blend 1 scoop powder ,1tbls sugarfree strawberry Jello mix, 8 ounces 1% milk and sometimes cut up half a banana. I also did the powder coffee milk ice and blend was tolerable enough

Yeah, congrats!! I bought a couple sample packs so I could try different flavors. However, several people have said their taste buds changed after surgery, so I'm not buying any large tubs until after my surgery. So far, I have liked some of the nectar ones the best. The Unjury chicken Soup is pretty good too. If you want to go the less expensive route, costco sells Premier shakes that are around 30g Protein and taste good too.

Hi Molly ( love your name it is my 19 y/o daughters name) if your surgery is in less then a month then you to are a September member. we have a thread listing 31 of us getting our surgery in September you are welcome to join us for support and encouragement in this life changing event. The thread is in pre op gastric bypass and it's called SEPTEMBER MEMBERS. We post username name start and current wt all info is of course voluntary.

As to your q about Protein shakes I bought Unjury and love the tast and ease of mixing. I used my magic bullet to make icy" milkshakes" but at work I just mixed in a shaker with cold milk and it tasted great. At my support group we did a taste test of banana flavored ne that was awesome but I can not for the life of me remember the name I will get back to you. Congrats on your approval and remember people say your taste changes after surgery so don't buy in bulk just yet. Wish I had read that before I spent a load of money on the unjury here's hoping I love it post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
