I had bypass of 7/25/12. I was losing very steadily. Now however, for the past five days I have gained a pound everyday. I'm following the program. My period has come and gone so it's not period weight. I meet my Protein and Water goals each day. Is this normal or am I broken!?

Are you moving your bowels at all? Silly question, but sometimes when things aren't working as efficiently as before surgery, that can cause a little bloat.

Also, how's your sodium intake? If you're eating foods high in salt, that can cause Water retention as well :)

My bowels have slowed...hec, last week I couldn't go for 7 days! Now it's about every couple days. As far as salt, no. I've been anti salt for years, half the time my doc says eat more salt because it's a bit too low do I don't know what's going on but it's freaking me out to gain a pound every day for five days! Yikes!

Patty, you might try to increase your intake. I know it sounds crazy, but your body might have went into starvation mode and could be holding on to everything. I. Would also take one Senakot tablet to get your system moving again. Hope that helps. Keep us posted.

When my bowel was stuck I took a laxative & wala. I don't have issues now. Well I think it is Water weight. I don't see a reason why you wouldn't lose weight.

I hadn't gone this whole week since surgery but last nite I had this tea called "smooth move" and that helped me out a lot! It works in like 5 hours and it's organic. I had it with a splash of milk and some Splenda...it tasted similar to chamomile tea. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
