Am I Crazy To Think ...

Recommended Posts

That i can go for the operation alone? Ie with out my husband? There are a few reasons that i want to go alone - one is that I live over 4 hours from the hospital, and would have to leave my home in the middle of the night to get to the hospital for 7am. And with 3 young kids at home - and no family to help i dont know that would happen. Another reason is that my husband would be useless ! Lol. He would either be to stressed out to help - about the op or too stressed out about his crops ( hes a framer and its the planting season now which is very important) having him sitting around( and probably on his phone all of the time) would make me feel more stresses out . He wants to come but i would prefer he came one the second day ... Am i crazy? The hosital is a private hosptal (but paid for by the" platinum" national health care option here in israel) with a very high ratio of nurse's to patients. Has anyone else done it alone too? My surgeon said it would perfectly ok to do it without some to help... What do you all think?

I would say I had my bf wait to start his vacation till the day I got out just for the fact that I was going to have round the clock care and be so drugged up

In my case I was barely coherent during the first two days so it was useless to have people just sitting doing nothing

I am a single mom and did stayed with my mom for the first 3 days. Then went home and did it alone with my two kids. You could do it alone but it would be great if your children aren't very young and can make themselves cereal/sandwich for lunch or dinner if you are too tired. During the first week I only needed a nap about 3 times but I REALLY needed them. Are they old enough to let you nap, help with laundry, etc or will they need chased around?

I think it's safer to always have someone there with you just in case - u never know what will happen.

I did my hospital stay alone , the day of surgery all you are going to want to do is sleep, and the next day the get you up to walk and tests. You should be fine just have your cell phone to check on your children and to call your hubby. Best wishes.

I had an allergic reaction to some medication and I thank god I had someone there with me. Just on the side of caution - if u have any complication etc.

I would say have him there, but that means the kids also right or is there gonna b sum1 watching them? If not I say it can b done alone if need be but its always good to have sum1 with u. If he dont go with u he could always bring the kids up later n da day to c u.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
