I'm Just Waiting On Insurance Approval

Recommended Posts

I'm at the point where everything depends upon my insurance. I'm so nervous and excited. I've already started my pre-op diet and am feeling great.

That's the part that sucks the most. Not like they can't call you and say something.

Good luck I'm sure everything will be just fine

I was a 6th of a pound to light a couple years ago, I'm just hoping they aren't to picky. My surgeon says not to worry he'll fight it if the buck it. Still has my stomach in knots though.

How much weight loss is likely on a one week pre op liquid diet?

My surgeon put me on a pre-op diet w/ no bread, milk, sugar or fruit. Very high Protein. So I'm basically eating turkey/chicken/veggies/salad. So far I've lost 5 this week.

Oh nice!! My pre op diet which is months away yet will be liquids only for a week before surgery. My doctor wants me to lose at least 5 lbs before my September 24 appointment and 3-4 lbs after that in October. This last appointment I had gained 7 lbs which I keep beating myself up over. I keep thinking I should have waited to quit smoking sigh...

My first week on the liquid diet I lost like 10 pounds, most of it Fluid. I've discovered when I eaten"normal" I get way too much sodium (I don't add salt, there's just so much in everything!) but when I'm on the shakes I get very little sodium and all my excess Fluid goes down the drain. The first 3 days I was constantly running to the restroom to pee, my coworkers were highly amused. (they're twisted sick type people, gotta love em)

Congrats!! So when do you get a surgery date? Do you have to do a pre op liquid diet? I seen where you said that the doc put you on a pre op diet was that before approval? Sorry for all the questions. Cause I am hoping he puts me on mine when I go for my final appointment October 23

Thank you! Actually got my surgery date this afternoon, October 1st. I meet the dietician on September 18th and start my official pre-op diet. Same diet he put me on 8/21, very very low carb and high Protein. I just got approval from the insurance company today. Some doctors put patients on a liquid pre-op but I guess mine isn't one of them, thank you Jesus! I was hoping for an earlier surgery date but it works out better this way. He's getting married the end of September and I've got people scheduled off for vacation at work. Eeeeek, so excited!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
