Need Wt Loss Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone:

I am Jeff....38/Male from Pennsylvania.

About 29 months ago I was injured at work...as a PreHospital Nurse. The injury was to my talks, a fracture and also a grade 2 case of Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction.

Workers Comp had me to 3 Drs before we found out what was wrong. In August of 2010 I had a 3 joint fusion in my foot. A repeat procedure in August of 2011 for non union.

Since my injury and being confined to crutches I've packed on an additional 90 pounds. Currently I am 5'8" and weight 430#.

The surgeon demanded I have bariatric surgery before he fixes my foot.

The inability to move...let alone exercise is more frustrating than I'd have ever imagined.

I guess I just want to know that I'm not alone and most importantly that I will be on the road to recovery and can finally be able to walk again without crutches.

Jeff

At 430 the best thing you can do for your self is WLS. It will take time for you to lose the weight but you will and lighten the load on your foot so you can heal better. You have come to a great Fourm with lots of very smart people that are going though the steps to surgery or have gone though it and are now on the loseing side.

There is always room for more here.

Any questions just ask somebody here will answer them for you.

Good luck

Your foot doctor is truly doing you a favor by recommending this for you. I am only 2 weeks post-op and, with my pre-op liquid diet, have lost about 32 pounds. Even that relatively small amound has made a huge difference in my energy levels and my comfort in mobility. It will for you too!

Thank You Everyone. Just reading a few hello messages with success stories is very motivating.

The wife and I are going Tuesday evening for a free information session where the rolling ball starts it's journey.

Just knowing I can talk with others is such a calming relaxing feeling. Feels like I have another small family.

Thanks again.

Jeff

I know your dealing with your foot but my husband's doctor said for his knee issues, every pound lost is equal to 7 pounds of pressure off the knee and I would guess your foot too! So this WLS is exactly what you need. Good luck with your journey!!

After some alone time and reading Weightloss Surgery for Dummies I have decided to quit smoking NOW instead of waiting. Afterall....if I can commit to this the lifestyle change of surgery will be a lot easier.

The wife and I are both very excited and nervous. Information session is coming up Tuesday evening.

And today I am starting my before photos.

Jeff

I quit 4 weeks ago. The first week I chewed regular gum and sucked on cinnamon and butterscotch hard candies. Then I went and got an electronic cig and a pack of refill cartridges (comes with 5) and that lasted me for 2 weeks and this past Friday I bought another refill pack. I plan to quit this as well but at my week pre op liquid diet. Maybe sooner. I got in trouble for gaining 7 lbs this past month so now I have to lose that plus 10 more pounds

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
