Hen they say sip, as in Water, how much is that exactly? A tsp-tblsp? How often can you drink one on top of the other? Seems like so much water to get in a tiny swig at a time. Advice?

Yeah this is soooo tricky. Everyone is different about this - you feel super full of you drink too much, some people still gulp and others use a straw. Just make sure all of your sipping equals over 64 oz a day.

I miss straws but I carry an insulated water bottle with me everywhere I go and try to drink as much as I can but someways I just can't get 8 glasses in

I'm having a really hard time with drinking and would like any advice. I've had to receive 3 bags of IV fluids this week from dehydration. When I sip I feel like I'm getting nauseous after 2 or 3 sips. I'm getting very discouraged right now. My dr said next time I'll have to be admitted.

New Carrie, sorry to hear about your problem. Have you tried Decaf green tea? It tends to settle the stomach without calories or caffeine. I get my fluids in that way.

Keep us posted, please.

Hi Carrie, I have been having the same issue. My weight loss stalled and I wasn't getting in hardly any Water or Protein. I went to the doctor yesterday for my 6 week checkup and told them that everything I put in my mouth makes me nauseous so I can't eat and drink. They asked why I had not called and told them about the nausea. I WAS TRYING NOT TO WHINE! Anyway, the doctor explained this.... I am dehydrated and because of that, I am nauseated, so I don't eat Protein and I do t drink which causes dehydration. Which makes me

Nauseous so I don't eat or drink..... Get it ? It's a vicious cycle and hard to break ! But it's not! They gave me Zofran dissolving tablets for the nausea, so yesterday I took one and ate and drank and drank. And today I am drinking like crazy after taking the Zofran znd guess what?? I feel so much better !!! And I was down 2 pounds this morning !!! I wish I had asked for the nausea medication sooner !!!! Please everyone, don't be afraid to ask the doctor for nausea medication, it really, really, really helps !!!!

I had surgery on Monday and am using a coffee cup which helps me sip and I have it next to me and 30 min after a meal I just sip it two to three times every 15 minutes. Also try SF popscicles those hydrate you as well, good luck!

Thanks Barebones...they did give me the script for Zofran but I was also trying to tough it out. I think I've gotten in about 20 oz today which was alot for me. Tomorrow I may just have to suck it up and use the meds.

Keep sipping its hard in the beginning . Add Jello sugar free Popsicle . Try cristal light or any sugar free drink mix with Water. Just keep sipping it gets easer.

My doctor says 2 oz every 15 min

Good luck

Don't try to tough it out! Use the meds. It is much better than a stay at the hospital! Maybe after a few days u can try again with no meds...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
