Just had my surgery 5/24 and I am already down 95lbs. Had some back problems that put me on the sideline for about 3 weeks. Didn't realize that that would happen. But with the decreased weight my compressed disc, of which I didn't know about, started acting up. Now I have gone through decompression for the last 2 weeks and now feel great. What type of exercise should I start doing? Thought about buying a bike. I started out at 427 and I am down to 332. What do you guys think?

Hi and welcome!! Congrats on the 95 lbs! wow! I am still pre-op, but I hope I can do as well as that. I recently bought a recumbent exercise bike, and I loveeee it. It is comfy, and doesn't hurt my back... I just started on it this week, but can go atleast a mile and 1/2 on it right now.

If you want the info on it, I'll be glad to give it to you. I liked it also, because it had a higher weight capacity, most of the ones I saw were a weight capacity of 250, this one is 325.

Thanks, good job on getting started early! I am going to be joining a gym soon, and will use their bikes, but was thinking of one for my neighborhood. I really want to get outside. I am ready to hit that 100lbs lost. I was hoping to hit it by tomorrow, since it will be 90 days since surgery.

I would check with your back doctor first to see what type of exercise is good for you and your back. You may want to consider a elliptical which is great for people with back/neck problems. I have two herniated disks in my neck, when my neck is bothering me I do not jog/run and I use my treadmill and eliptical until I feel better. My doctor suggests walking when I have a flare-up. I would check with your doctor first - you don't want to cause more harm !!

He has told me that I can go back to any normal exercising, just asked that I visit him for core strengthening.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
