So I Don't Know If I Am Freaking Out For No Reason...

Recommended Posts

Today was first day of soft foods.I am 5 days post op. Here is what I ate.

Protein shake...8 oz took about 2 hours to do it

Water sip sip sipping all day

pureed moist pork maybe 1 oz (I chew chew chewed)

and 2 oz of the taco Soup from this website at 6:30 and 2 oz at 10pm

currently drinking 50/50 Isopure melon and water to try to get to 50 grams of protein for the day

No dumping....I am not neccesarily feeling hungry but I am not feeling full either. I'm just ok. Like I could not eat and be fine. But early on today where my largest incision is (if I am looking down, below my right breast) all surrounding it it has been hurting. I walked about 30 minutes today. I have been mostly on time with the pain meds today. But this evening before I went to the store with my sister (she was to carry the groceries) I stood up from my chair and a crippling pain above my largest incision going up to the little one above it. When I got out of the passenger side after I stood up the crazy sharp pain all in that area brought me to tears. I managed to get to the store, I embarrassingly got into a electric cart (never had to do that BEFORE surgery) and proceeded with my shopping My lovely sister helped me with everything (I am sad my family is flying home tomorrow night) and mercifully by the time I got back to the car, my sister unloaded groceries I was able to stand with only a pain, likeI needed more meds. I don't know what is going on. I am scared because I am going to be alone as of tomorrow night. What do I do if the sharp pain returns tomorrow?

Only advice I can give is take it easy when your on your own and take your pain meds as scheduled. You don't want to wait till the pain starts, you have to keep it under control.

The big incesion is where they had to cut though abdominal muscle and will be the one that takes the longest to heal. If it continues contact your surgeon ? May be nothing more then straining it . Relax take it some what ez keep walking and sipping

You just had surgery so it's normal to be in pain. Sometimes you can't help it if you need to shop & such but one step at a time. Try to take it easy.

I had those pains too. They turned out tone a combination of incision pain and gas! They pumped us full of gas to do their work and it hurts when it all has to get out if there. My doctor told me to take pain meds as scheduled even if I felt like I didn't need them and use a heating pad on my lower back to ease the pain.

I can still remember limping through the auditorium at my son's awards night 5 days post op and a woman asking me if I needed help. I of course said no because that's what I do. Then I wished I had said yes when it took me 20 minutes to make it to the car!! So accept help when you need it. Don't be stubborn like me! That motorized cart would have been a Godsend for me that night, that is if I humbled myself to use it!

Severe pain of any kind - call your doctor. Always better to be safe. Most likely is gas and normal healing but it never hurts to be sure.
