I have been going through this process for years. Then every time my insurance says they won't approve WLS. So then I chance jobs and supposedly the insurance will pay for it, so I start the process all over again. Just to find out there was an "exclusion" in the policy my company chose. My company had opted out of WLS!!! Myself and many others were devastated. So, I went to HR and fought. Myself and my HR rep fought with corporate of my company. After about a year of fighting my company decided to change insurance companies. So the new company covers WLS and my company chose not to opt out of it!!!!

This was like the best news ever!

So I waited for the new year to begin and start the process all over again with the new insurance company.

In the mean time I have kidney stones that are stuck in my ureter so I go into surgery to have them removed just to find out I have bladder cancer. So I take care of that and get the stones out. No chemo for me. Also they say I need my gallbladder out because it's bad. The only thing is, they won't do another surgery because od the previous surgery on the bladder and they want to ensure I'm cancer free for a year. So a year goes by, I get the gallbladder out. I'm still cancer free. I have one last thing to do per surgery and that's the EGD next week. Yeah it's almost time to schedule my WLS right? No........ Now I have 2 kidney stones each the size of a golf ball!! So WLS again is postponed because they have to cut through my back and into my kidney to get the big balls out. ( Nephrolithotomy)

When will this ever end?

After my 8 weeks of recovery from that, I can schedule my surgery. Will my company really allow me to be out of work again, and have a job to come back to?

I am so stresses! I have had one surgery already this year. Another surgery scheduled in 2 weeks to get the stones out. That brings me to recovery til November. So I guess I will pray and do my WLS next year and hope and pray to god that my insurance doesn't change.

Make sure you apply for FMLA. I think that is in most states. I think that will guarantee that they can not fire you for geing out on medical leave. Also check with state insurance to help pay for some of your time off, a lot of states have something from the state that helps. Check with your HR person. Hope this all works out and soon for you!

Thank you. I can't get FMLA until Feb 2013. I exhausted it with previous surgeries.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
