K Wait, So No Alcohol Ever?!

Recommended Posts

It's not recommended, although I've had a cocktail here and there. There is a high incidence of people developing an addiction because of the way it metabolizes. I know many people that are post bypass and drink socially without issue.

Good to know, not that I'm in any rush to drink but I'd like to have a glass of wine on New Years! Thanks for responding!

I am 10 weeks out and have had an occastional glass of wine in the evenings and had no problem. However it does go straight to your head. You can not drink the volume you did before the surgery. Make sure someone's with you the first time you drink as you may not know how you will react with your new body!

Really good advice. I have had a few glasses of wine since surgery almost 4 months ago and have discovered my new limit is two glasses. I used to be able to drink a lot more than that!

I will admit I'm kind of scared to try liquor if any kind.

I have heard from many people that there is a high rate of alcoholism post surgery. Is it easier to become addicted to alcohol after surgery? Would it have to do with the way it is metabolizes? It's kind of scary.

I had 2 vodka with orange juice. Didnt buzz but then I've never gotten high ever, no matter how much I drink. :( not worth the time, money or effort.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
