Alert: Companies Pushing Collagen-Based Protein Products

As you might know, the price of high quality whey protein isolate (as well as low quality whey protein concentrate) is much higher than two years ago.

Some companies cannot even GET good quality whey protein isolate. What do they do then?

Well, some companies are trying to get you to buy still lower-quality protein sources by making them sound fashionable, mystical, trendy. Have you noticed anyone selling pea protein and chia protein? Most of them weren’t selling pea protein and chia protein when they could get whey protein isolate at better prices.

Even worse, we think, are the people selling protein supplements that get most of their protein from collagen, and what they don’t tell you..

They don’t tell you when their protein value to your body is much lower than with whey protein. Sometimes they have a protein quality score of zero.

They don’t tell you that typically you would need double or triple the grams of protein to get the same amount of complete protein.

They don’t tell you that collagen is cheap for them to buy because collagen protein typically comes from harvesting the collagen from the skin or stripped carcass of the animal.

Why don’t they tell you?

HOW TO SPOT PRODUCTS WITH COLLAGEN PROTEIN

Sometimes the collagen-based products come in large “test tubes”, sometimes in plastic bottles. The actual product often looks a bit like cough Syrup. Always read the ingredients list.

At Unjury Protein, we ONLY use the whey protein isolate – particularly high quality whey protein isolate. Our PDCAAS score is a perfect 100.

We tell you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
