Insurance denied me :( I'm so upset, my BMI is not 40.. I'm literally 3lbs away. So he said drink a TON of water! And wear heavy clothes. I have more existing medical conditions but I go back in on next Wednesday to be re-weighed! Wish me luck :(

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's so frustrating. Was this your first weigh in or was it after losing weight on the 3/6 month diet?? I am keeping my fingers for you!!

I had to switch doctors after completing my 6 months of weight management and I was worried about my BMI being too low (38-39) since I was 40-41 when I started this journey. It was this summer mind you, but I wore the heaviest jeans I owned, a cardigan sweater over my shirt (hey it's cold in the office with A/C), jewelry (again my heaviest Brighton necklace and charm bracelet), and I put my iPhone in my pocket. I also ate and drank just before I went in. It was enough to get me to 40 without gaining the weight back. My surgery is September 10. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I've also heard that some people put on ankle weights....it sucks that they would let a few pounds come between you and something you need. I was "on the line" and my doctors office was great at telling me I was doing good with pre surgery weight loose, but slow down....I'm getting close to going under..

Was your BMI always under 40, or did it fall below 40 on a 6 month weigh in?

Thank you guys! This was based off my very first weigh in. I am 235 bmi of 39.1. . I need to be 140 for the insurance to approve. My next appointment is on Wednesday and she said on the phone to drink a ton of Water and eat lots of salty stuff so my body retains water weight. And i also bought ankle weights.

But i have an amazing group of doctors who have a great reputation for fighting for their patients! But i will be wearing tons of clothes and thinking extra fat thoughts!!! : )

I can seriously hold 5 pounds of Water weight if I try....potato chips and salty nuts will get me every time (and make my blood pressure go up so I'd have a comorbidity!)

Good News, Well sort of. I Drank so much Water I thought I was going to PUKE! The hour before my appointment, wore a sweatshirt, and jeans, and my sketchers shape ups. I put my huge galaxy note in my pocked along with like 5 dollars in change. I looked REDONKULOUS! However 243! With a BMI of 40.3. Dr. Boone said I should be good, Laughed at the way I was dressed and said if they denied me again he and the insurance were going to have words. They resubmitted today! So I should hear something by this next week!!! yay!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
