The chewing & size of bite got me big time. I tried to woof down a sausage ball & it got stuck. Owwy for an hour and a half. I made the balls with low fat everything & added cream cheese to keep them moist (Pinterest recipe altered). Next one, I used a fork to break down my bites and it went much better.

Here's the cream cheese sausage ball recipe. You can make just a few at a time and freeze the uncooked ones. I just started using MFP so I don't have the nutritional stats but I am 4 weeks out so any food with Protein is a good thing at this point. One fills me up - I made them kind of big.

I have a WLS food/recipe board on Pinterest - Susie Sosnik. The food porn on that site is abundant! I can stare at the food and not have to eat it. It somehow satisfies cravings and eventually, I will be able to make and eat some of the healthier foods. Lots of great ideas there.

Cream cheese Saugsage Balls from the blog "Plain Chicken"

1 lb hot sausage, uncooked (could use lowfat JImmy Dean sausage but note that is comes in 12 oz size; I wanted it hot so used the full fat version)

8 oz cream cheese, softened (I used neufchatel)

1 1/4 cups Bisquick (i used the heart smart version. Could use Carbquick or Atkins)

4 oz cheddar cheese, shredded (i used 2%)

Preheat oven to 400F.

Mix all ingredients until well combined. (I use my KitchenAid mixer with the dough hook attachment) Roll into 1-inch balls. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until brown.

Sausage balls may be frozen uncooked. If baking frozen, add a few minutes to the baking time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
