Weight Gain 4 Yrs Out

Recommended Posts

I just had my 4 year anniversary in July. When I had my surgery I was young and it was two weeks after my Dad died. I also went though a divorce within 6 months of having the surgery. I am not making excuses but I can honestly say now that I want in the right mindset for the surgery. I am now 37lbs heavier than my lowest. And I cannot seem to get the weight to come off. I am very discouraged.

Everything happens for a reason, you had your surgery and you know what to do but feelings of depression can sure make it impossible to move forward. Reach out to a good friend or a professional, sounds like you have a lot of grief to deal with and without dealing with history your futur will only stand still until you do. With much love and respect. 37lbs btw is cake once you get into it my dear.

I agree with Jade - 37 pounds is certainly not insurmountable. I'd suggest going back to basics.

Maybe start with a liquid diet for a week being sure to include at least 60g of Protein and even 100g would be fine. The Protein will help jump start your metabolism and in response your body will likely start burning stored fuel. After a week of liquids, move on to pureed foods perhaps with one meal a day of soft foods for the second week. Third week - ease back into regular foods.

Four to five meals a day. Measured portions. Start and maintain a daily food log - any number of very good apps for your phone. If you still have all of the information from your original surgery, go back and review what you did for the first six weeks or so post-op and repeat it. If you don't still have the information, contact your surgeon's office and request copies of their current information packet. Seeing your surgeon would be a good idea as well just to confirm that nothing else is going on. And seeing your nutritionist would also be a good idea.

You've done it before and you can do it again!!

You can do it. Focus & have your pouch rechecked.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am really going to try. I was really bad after surgery. I only went to two follow up spots and now have different ins. So I don't know of the surgeon will see me. I am trying to have a baby and having complications so I really need to get this weight off. Back to basics.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
