Protein Drinks And Shakes, What Ones Are Good?

Recommended Posts

I was looking online today for Protein Drinks and shakes that I will need after surgery. Was wanting some input from everyone on what they have liked best? I found these drinks called Isopure and they look pretty good but haven't heard if they are good or not. Please anyone and everyone what have you liked>?

I started with Isopure Low Carb Protein Shake whick was good. I switched to another brand (soory forgot the name) but it was cheaper than the Isopure. The Isopure tasted better (dutch chocolate). Stay away form the Protein Shots the are totally discusting !!!!!

I haven't tried them yet but I will after I have surgery. My program just decided to add isopure to the after surgery diet. Are they super expensive?

You'll get a lot of opinions on shakes here for sure. The best bet is to keep trying them yourself until you find a few that you really like. Tastebuds seem to change quite a bit after surgery and what you like now you may not after. Lots of online stores sell samples so you don't have to buy a big tub not knowing if you'd like it. I've traded samples of my Protein powders with other folks who had the surgery or were having it so we could all try different ones.

My current favorites are Pure Protein chocolate powder and Syntrax Mint chocolate cookie (tastes like melted mint chocolate chip ice cream) I also add flavorings to my chocolate shake to change it up a bit. You can mix in a spoonful of SF pudding mix of any flavor, use natural Peanut Butter, SF Torani syrups, cappella drops, SF extracts etc. I love the capella drops :) You can get them online as well.

HOpe you find some you like.

I've been using Atkins' Advantage, and it's so good. It's available in different flavors too

My program requires One bottle of Isopure Zero carb Protein Drink everyday post surgery. I think most of them taste really horrible BUT, I do like the green apple and one other one. So, I'm just gonna suck it up and drink one a day until I can start eating regular protien.

Yeah, I hate them too but, I just want to do everything they're telling me to do.

Hey Molly, Isopure is expensive (about $3-$4 per bottle), but the good thing is you can buy one bottle at a time to see what you like without being stuck with a case of something.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
