Heartburn Anyone? How Bout A Side Of Joint Pain?

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months post-op and down 75 lbs (yay!), but suddenly I'm noticing heartburn and possibly too much acid in my stomach causing ulcer-like pains (it feels like someone is trying to burn a whole through the wall of my stomach). Sometimes it seems to get better with food and/or Tums. Anyone else experience this? I thought I was cured of heartburn once and for all! :(

Also, since I've lost all this weight, I started hurting MORE! I started having knee pain just a year or so before my surgery which went away at some point post-op. Now that I'm the lightest I've been in over 10 years, my ankles have started hurting when I go shopping as do my feet, and my hips! Why the hips?? My knees will hurt on occasion too. Is it from increased exercise, possibly?

Thank you for your input! :)

No heartburn here, but if I feel like my pouch isn't feeling right I take a Prilosec which makes it feel better.

Sounds like ulcers to me , I was going through that pain before I had surgery , very painful my husband thought I was nuts, cause I tell him my inside is on fire! Found out it was stomach ulcers my surgeron put me on Pepcid and that helped a lot

I had that pain the second week after my first RNY, I became allergic to prevacid so was put on nexium and to this day I have had no problems only the two times I forgot to take it.

Well, I had an endoscopy done and found out that I had a stricture, but no ulcers. That's what I was concerned about. It's likely that they're just hunger pains, but man, it's painful! I have to keep something to eat with me at all times so that when it strikes, I can put something in my tiny tummy. I was really hoping to never have to take an antacid/reflux med again; but by the sounds of it by hearing your stories, I just might have to. :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
