How Are You Losing 20-30 Pounds In A Couple Of Days?

Recommended Posts

I keep seeing peoples signatures and they said (for example):

Pre-op: 300

Post-op: 270

How are you losing 30 pounds in the 3 days youre in the hospital???

I want to know too. I am down 30 pounds but that took 20 days. So I'm not sure how u can do it in 3-5 days but 20 pounds any sooner might not look right.

My pre op was 3 weeks before surgery so my fluctuation is partly the diet prior to surgery I am sure that's what's going on

I think alot of people are putting their highest weight as their preop weight. And like DS said, my preop weight was followed by 2 weeks of a liquid diet and lost almost 20 lbs then.

I saw someone post a 100 lb weight loss in 2 weeks and as a RN I can tell you it is scientifically impossible.

I know I counted my 25lbs weight loss (from Optifast 21 day liquid diet) as pre-op, but like someone else on here said, EVERY pound lost is a challenge accepted and won!! As it stands I am currently losing approx one pound a day (as is expected for the first 0-3 months)

The day I went in to the hospital I weighed in at 268 lbs when I left the hospital I weighed 284 lbs. 16 lbs was just from fluids they gave me in the hospital. That was gone after 3-5 days the other 18 lbs has taken 2 weeks.

Wow!!! It's normal to lose 1 pound a day for the first 3 months???

That is what all the education I have received has said, as of day 30 I have lost 33lbs...we shall see what the next 60 shall prove (I am also adhering to the VERY strict meal and exercise planner provided by the weight loss clinic, in addition to ensuring FULL Protein and Water intake...)

Unless maybe you have both legs and possibly an arm removed? Or get divorced from a really skinny guy! That'd be a quick way to dump 100 pounds!

To me, that sounds like the kiss of death. Anything so strict seems like it would be tough to follow.

I ate eggs Monday seemed to gimme the fuel I needed for the day n I wasn't hungry for atleast 8 hrs.

You are lucky, I lose approx 2-3 pounds a week with fluctuations and im not taking Protein, plus I'm allowed to eat anything.

Based on the advice I've read here, I never ate anything that had high fat or sugar, in fact I don't consume any sugar at all.

Everyone's loss is different. :)

I am oddly comforted by it so far, granted I am ONLY one week post op and have not yet even started purée diet, so fear of dumping and lack of options has made my choices quite easy to adhere to, as I stated previously, we shall see what the following months have in store.

That being said, I am OVER THE MOON excited to possibly start purée diet this weekend, I would give a kidney for a taste of veggies or soup!!

I say again, I am still only one week post op, or 30 days in if you count the Optifast, I am quite certain this stage is when the most dramatic weight loss occurs and am surly not trying to lose at this point. I have been on my back for 7days forcing myself to sip broth Protein and Water, I feel like I would lose the same if I was struggling with the flu lol

I know where my weaknesses lie and my challenge shall be choosing all the right foods on e the option to choose becomes available. Especially after being denied anything for SO long :/

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
