I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op and have lost 35 pounds. I've been doing well except one of my small incisions is infected, and antibiotics don't seem to be clearing it up. Beginning yesterday, I brgan feeling really down and crying about everything. Has anyone else gone through any time of depression or feeling down?

Congrats on the loss thus far. So sorry to hear about the infection but don't let things get you down now. You've made such an important decision in your life and need to focus on moving forward. Things will look up soon...while I'm only a week post op I'm sure some of the veterans on here will chime in with some great words of wisdom from experience.

Yes, the crying comes and goes. It was all clear by week 6.

I am 3 months post op and to this day I have depression episodes. Not as bad or often as I did. Just keep your head up and focus on your new life.

Kinda like post partum blues. These are the post bypass blues. Yes, I cry quite a bit for any little thing. We are on the same boat. Just stay positive:-)

surgery date: 7/30/12

I've had a few bouts of depression, especially when I went to my 3 month checkup and had only lost 4 pounds. Boy I really beat myself up that time. But I told myself what I needed to do, dusted myself off, put one foot in front of the other and told my self I can do this. Purely mind over matter. Remember you are in control. This is a big change for all of us and it will take some time to get to where we want to be. At my doctor appt this month I was down 19 pounds for a grand total of 80 pounds in 4 months.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
