To Scale Or Not To Sclae?

Recommended Posts

I have never owned a scale, and not sure if I want one. Before it was because I hated seeing the number and now I think I'll be on it every five minutes to see if I've "lost" any weight. I'm five days post op and I'm curious to know if I've dropped anything, but I still am not sure if I should buy one. Any suggestions? Or comments, criticisms or concerns? Lol

Some people think 1 time every week is good some think it's good for every day. Yours to choose I step on every morning helps me keep control.

What ever way works for you good luck

I won't do it every day cuz weight fluctuates so much! But i do weigh myself once a week on the same time and day.

I started doing the weekly weigh in about a month prior to surgery. It's been keeping me inspired through this liquid phase by seeing the numbers going down. Even with post op bloating it's still decreasing.

I found myself with this new obsession. I had to have my husband put my scale up. I started weighing in once a day...then several times a day...and now I a weighing in once per week. It depends on how much control you have on yourself. lol

I weigh myself daily, in the morning and after I pee & poop - LOL Weighing daily keeps me motivated !! This may not work for all but it works for me. You have to find what works best for you. I would purchase a scale but get a decent one so you can get a accurate reading.

I keep saying I'm going to weight 1time a week and end up weighing every day ...... No self control I need to stop because it leaves me with extreme highs and lows.

I weigh daily but, i also keep in mind that the scale will go up and down so I don't beat myself up if it goes up a pound. When I do see it goes up I make sure to really watch what I'm doing to get it back down and keep going in the right direction.

As you can see from the wide variety of answers, there really isn't one right answer to your question. I'm convinced that for some folks, weighing too often can be a big mistake. It can sabotage your efforts when you're thinking that you've worked so hard and done everything exactly right and you don't see the results you were expecting on the scales. The reality is that everyone loses weight differently - different speeds, different patterns, differences between men and women, just plain different. The fact that my weight loss is different from yours means absolutely nothing. If you understand that and are strong enough not to measure your success strictly on what the scales tell you, there's no problem with weighing when you want to. If not, then it's probably a very good idea to limit weighing to once a week at the most, and every two weeks might be even better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
