Hi all, I am 5 days post-op and have been home for 3 days. I started having very bad back pain (almost like back labour) anyone have this too or know if it could be gas pain or surgery related? I did have several feet of intestine removed and several inches of bowel also removed....anyone got info/advice?!?!?

I had severe back pain for a few weeks. Most likely it is gas pain and / or weight shifting pain. If it stays only in one particular spot for a long time (days), it could be something else.

Whew. I know what you mean. As soon as I got home from the hospital Saturday I started having back pain. It is just now going away. My doctor said it was probably gas pain... especially since I sleep flat on my back and not propped up like at the hospital.

I had that as well and I am 5 days post op, walking made mine eventually go away. I never had any pain from the incisions or anything only thing that Hurt was my back for about 3 days and now I'm completely pain free.

Sounds like gas to me but check with your doc just in case. I eliminated my gas by walking.

I had alot of back pain while in the the hospital , the doctor said most likely from the hospital bed, but even at home for several days I still had it, I do not think it was gas pains, I think it had to do with the way I was laying down during the day and sleeping at night.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
