I Feel Like Im Preparing To Die

Recommended Posts

MY surgery is this Wednesday and I feel like everything I'm doing will be the last time I'm doping it. Even writing MSG's to folks I'm extra nice cause I don't the last thing I say to be mediocre...lol, kinda silly isn't it. But I've been dreaming about death and found a dead mouse in the back lane and dead bird in my front yard...I'm scared I'll be lost in the OR, loose my life to blood loss or complications...sigh'

Well I agree with you. It's sad but things can happen. Im getting a will and having all the bills in order for hubby. More in case I'm too sick or in the hospital longer then planned. But You will be fine!!

I found peace by asking my Suregon a million questions as well as talking to a few of his patients. Knowing he never lost a patient made me feel like I was in really really good hands.

No surgery should be taken lightly so if it makes you feel better to have things in order there isn't any harm in that. I had it all set myself...years ago did the will so that was set, I made sure to complete a healthcare proxy and told my husband how I felt about things. I wrote both my husband and son letters when I had my lapband surgery back in 2006 so didn't feel I needed to do that again this time but, I did talk to them both. I trusted my surgeon which was a big help. I asked all my questions etc. I was nervous about it all anyway because of course there are complications that can happen. Nope....no harm in being prepared :)

I think fear is a natural and healthy part of having a surgery. I'd be much more worried about someone who isn't afraid! Just think how excited you're going to be when you wake up in recovery! You're gonna love the new you!!

I am feeling the same way! Surgery is tomorrow and I feel like I should have all of my affairs in order...even though I am only 27 and my surgeon said I have nothing to worry about. No high blood pressure, chloestreol, no diabetes. But it doesn't mean I am not nervous. If you feel better getting everything figured out, do it.

You have every right to be scared !!! Any surgery there is always risks... we all pulled thru and are here today to speak about it. You will do just fine..do what your doctor instructs you to do and nothing will happen.

Your scared we are human that is what we do. But I think judging from all the post op people here that we will make it. My surgeon only takes people that will be a good statistic for him.....you will be fine. Your dr doesn't want to lose anyone he is who your trusting. Have faith and know we are cheering you on.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
