Need Some Advice Or Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I'm a post-op patient & I was wanting to get some input on what I need to do. I had my surgery in 2003 & did extremely well, as far as losing the weight. I lost 130 lbs. The only complication I had was in 2005, when I had lost some much weight that my intestines moved & got in a knot. Well, I had corrective surgery, a hernia repair. In March of 2011, I had my first child & maybe my only child, I haven't decided yet. My dilemma is that I have gained a good bit of my weight back. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else & if so have they lost the weight & what did they do to get the weight off? I'm strongly considering having my bypass turned into the lapband. Just to get back to a healthier weight, so I can see my little girl grow up. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sort of in the same pickle... I've gained back about 35 pounds with a change of career to truck driver... VERY sedentary without much chance for exercise. I'm trying to go back to basics and limit my intake like I did when I was a fresh post op... Hard though... Driving for 8 hours, I tend to munch and nibble... Sigh...

I had my RNY in 2004 lost 130 lbs. began to gain back in 2009. Gained 80lbs. My intestines were stretched where it meets the stoma. I ended up having a revision to correct that on 6/28/11. I've lost 22 lbs so far. It's tough to get back on track. You might be able to do it on your own. I wasn't disaplined enough without the "tool". RNY.

I had mine in 2009 and got preg a yr later and gained 40lbs my son is 15 months still haven't lost the weight. I don't have insurance right now but if I did I'd want to get my gastric turned into the lap and as well cuz I know my pouch is stretched and I think my stoma as well. I can get down way to much food :/ today I started a 3 week liquid diet to help me get back on track with losing! Make sure your eating protine protine protine get back to the basics if u can it's hard but it will work. I hate being a food addict :( good luck! I went from 330 size 26 XXL to 175 size 12 M top got up to 215 now back at 205 size 14 and a L top. And although I know I look great to how I used to be i feel discussing having gained weight back :(

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
