I did the optifast900 liquid diet for 21 days pre-op had the roux-en-y gastric bypass on thurs aug9 and was sent home aug11 (far too soon I felt) but I am home now and doing fairly well, the gas pain is constant and the incision pain is only really bad getting in or out of bed. I am so blessed to have my partner doing everything to help me out (lifts, cleaning, shopping ect) and our daughter is with my parents for the rest of the week also. I just the gas pain would ease up a bit, I have only passed a small amount a couple times...any recommendations for natural pain relief??

Some folks sayd GasX helps and others recommend walking it out of your system. I can't say I've had the gas pain...I have been bloated by it and walking helped with that but, I wasn't having pain.

I hope it goes away for you soon.

Yeah, I have been "walking" in my apt and laying in bed with my legs up but only little bubbles escape even though I feel HUGE gurgles in there, and when I do walk I feel it pushing on my insides. Just so exhausted from the pain, and the constant eating/drinking/pills...

How Long Does This Stage Last??!!

if you can lay on your left side and lift you knees as far up to u as possible without causing pain, (in a hurdle kinda) and lay like that for awhile its a natural way to relieve gas and it really works, i learnd this in my medical classes. Good Luck!!! and i hope it gets better

Hey Punk...I'm on the same schedule as you. Had surgery on Thur and came home yesterday. I have the gas pains as well but finally started having BMs today after one of my walks. I think I overdid it though when I tried going to the grocery store. While we def have to move we also need to make sure to get the rest in between. I came home and laid down right away after I was in so much pain and feel 75% better. Gonna try another short walk now and we'll see. Wish you all the best and feel free to hit me up to compare notes.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
