Discharged yesterday from hospital and was feeling decent. Went to grocery store today with my hubby and now feel horrible. Back and chest pain with a coughing fit thrown in. Want to just lay down and sleep now. Is this normal?

Every body reacts different I was in hospital for 4 days just something my doctor does. For a day or two after surgery I felt crappy and then it passed

You just had major surgery your body needs time to heal you should be alright soon if not contact your Doctor

Good luck

It's a constant feeling right now. Keep feeling like I need to belch but if I force it I only dry heave. I know I need to walk but my hubby seems to think I should be running a marathon already. Which also makes me feel worse.

You should be resting with occasional small walks....and likely feeling exhausted. You had major surgery, your body needs time, you likely have gas from the surgery as well as swelling causing pressure in your gut. Be patient, this takes a while!

Heck, I didn't leave the house for a week when I got home. You have a bunch of healing to do and just that trip to the grocery store and if you carried groceries into the house...you probably burned more calories than you're taking in. Short walks is about it for a while, while you're healing. My doc didn't give permission for longer walks/exercise until 3 weeks out when she knew I was taking in enough Protein and fluids.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I felt much better after I came home and slept for about an hour. Gonna try a smaller walk now and we'll see what happens.

They cut through skin and muscle rearranged your guts. You can't eat and probably barely drink and if he expects for you to do more than go to the bathroom this soon he's absolutely crazy....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
