New here UK based

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm new here. Looking at the posts I think maybe this is more USA geared than UK. I had a gastric balloon fitted Oct 05 for 6 months. I managed to lose about 18 kilos [was 82 kilos to start] I had the balloon removed March 06 and although I have tried really hard to stay to smaller portions I am now starting to regain the weight. Back up to about 74 kilos. I am terrified of putting it all back and some so am seriously considering the lapband.

I know I am not grossly overwieight but I'm only small and really need to lose the weight is because I have high blood pressure, my cholesterol levels are also high, I suffer with arthritis in knees and hips and my mum was diabetic which I am really worried about becoming.

I just felt I was doing so well with the balloon and would have loved to have kept it in forever so think the band is the next best step.

I have two choices at the moment whether to go for the lap band with the port or a new procedure - same lap band but it is adjusted electronically so no need for needles. What I would like to know is where the port actually sits - is it above or below your breasts and can you see or feel it.

I can't see and I can only feel my port if I lay down and search for it. Its an incision right at the waist line on my left hand side. You will love the band. I like the sound of that electronic filler. I hate getting fills and they are expensive. I have spent $1k so far. Good luck.

Thanks for answering my question - I had visions of having this big lump somewhere just below the breast line.

Didn't know you had to pay for fills. I am in the UK and have been told by one clinic that the price [just below 8 thousand pounds] includes unlimited fills, all your pre-op and post-op foods.

I know a lot of doctors include fills in their price. I wish my doctor had done that. I wish I knew before my surgery my insurance wouldn't cover it.

I have now booked my consultation and also pre-booked my bed for surgery. I have opted to go for the new telemetric band - it has no port and therefore no fills - it is adjusted electronically so no needles. It is going to be a thousand pounds more but I figured it will be worth it long term - also was told that they are actually working on being able to adjust this via the telephone so won't even have to travel to the clinic for adjustments. Will know more on the 17th Feb when I have my consultation with the surgeon. But bed is pre-booked with a huge cash deposit for the 11th March

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
