My surgery is Sept 19. We get to go through this together! I also had to have a gb ultrasound. They do this because if there is any indication that you have stones, they will remove your gallbladder during surgery. Dramatic weightloss tends to cause stones. A lot of times people end up having to have it removed later on. Good luck with everything! It took me a year and a half to get a date, needless to say, I'm ready! Do you have to do a pre-op diet? If so, how long?

Susan, I have to do a ten day full liquid diet. I will be on clear liquid while in the hospital and go home on full liquids. I will continue that until my two week follow up. So all together almost a month of liquid =(

I can only have 2 Protein Shakes a day for the pre-op phase. I can have skim milk, light yogurt, no sugar added fudgesicles in moderation. broth, sugar free beverages, sf Popsicles and Jello in any amount. I have found a tea that I really like, the brand is 4C. It's artificially sweetened and caffeine free. Btw, the name is Jessica. It's nice to meet ya!

I, too, had to have an abdominal ultrasound. It's a routine pre-op test. My surgery date is September 10. I have to do a two week pre-surgery diet, but I get some normal food too. I have to do shakes, but I can have one high Protein, low carb meal a day or spread out the real food throughout the day. Every doctor has different requirements, but they will tell you what you can/can't have.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
