Tricare Approval Received...preop Appts Made!

Recommended Posts

So the horrible lady at my dr's office that was such a bit** yesterday called me late this afternoon and said that she had not received the approval from Tricare but was going to go ahead and make the appointments for my preop class tomorrow at 830am, and I see the dr and go to hospital on friday at 130pm for preop test etc. Now...remember this is the same lady that raked me out just yesterday because I asked if she could make these appointments since she only had to submit the actual surgery date to Tricare for approval (they told her that was ALL they needed) and she said NO and yelled at me and got in to a huge issue with me... Now today she set all the appointments without the approval !!!

By the way I got home from work today and logged in to my tricare page and found that at 5:27pm they had offically approved the surgery... so all is well... Surgery is MONDAY Aug. 13th!!! I am SO excited I can't stand it.... I got a lot to finish up (cleaning, cooking meals for hubby to eat while I am gone) I am already packed (thanks to all the tips for packing you have all shared!) and just passing time. I'm a little nervous, but far more ready to get this behind me and on the way to losing and living an active life!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
