JustJenn 542 Posted August 7, 2012 So a lot of people have mentioned this non flavored Protein to add to Water and pretty much anything to increase daily intake. I just went to a place that has all these types of supplements, and the guy said its not the protein your body needs. His quote "you're just going to piss it all out" and he was against whey protein. He wanted me to buy this protein blend stuff. He tried to assure me he knows his stuff but its opposite of what I've been told all along.

DLCoggin 1,788 Posted August 7, 2012 There are a number of very good products on the market that contain Protein blends. I have no idea why anyone would be against whey protein but that said, whey, soy and milk Proteins are all excellent and all have the highest possible 1.0 PDCAAS digestability score. Casein protein is also very high quality but not recommended for bypass patients because it's a "slow release" protein - exactly the opposite of what you want following gastric bypass. Stay away from collagen (aka "gelatin") protein. PDCAAS score is 0.08 which makes it pretty much worthless. You'll often find collagen protein in the products marketed as "shots" or "bullets". Very high protein numbers but it's useless if you can't digest it. If you can get the product name that the guy is recommending and post it here, it should be easy to get the nutrition information and the type of protein it contains. Some suggest that there is a limit to the amount of protein that your body can absorb from one "meal" - usually stating 30g to 40g but I have yet to find a reputable source to confirm that. Virtually all doctors recommend high protein intake for bypass patients so I wouldn't worry too much about your body not being able to utilize it.
~Christi~ 54 Posted August 7, 2012 Stick to what your nutritionist tells you. That's my advice. 1 working4shoes reacted to this
my3stars 88 Posted August 7, 2012 I would go with what your nut or dr say. I bought at Target pure Protein vanilla and the frosty chocolate and they are both quite tasty. And for 20.00 a pop 140 cal, 2.5g of fat, 2g sugar and 25p you cannot beat that. Sometimes these places just want you to fork out 50 bucks for a protein and they do not even know what RNY patients need. By the way thank u Dlcoggin for the recomendation!
