Is this a problem?

Recommended Posts

Okay gang I am a little worried. I am 10 sleeps away from my surgery date and I think I can feel a cold coming on. Mind over matter and I tell myself I am fine and chug my green tea, however I cannot remember the rule. If I am sniffly for surgery can I still get it done? I do not want to set back the date or cancel. What is the rule?

oooh I'd call and find out. I think you'll probably be okay by then, but i'd find out what thier policy is regardless.

Yeah - they don't like you to be weakened by illness when they do surgery on you. Take whatever remedy you can to get over the cold before the surgery date.

I was in the same position you were prior to banding and Dr Joffe told me as long as my chest was clear not to worry. I had a bit of a cough and a sniffle but on the morning of surgery my lungs were clear so I was all good.

Phone your clinic and ask them about it. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks gang for the response. I think I might have been a little too worried yesterday about a couple sneezes. I was fine yesterday afternoon and I am still feeling good now. Cross your fingers that it stays this way. :D

I have already had my blood work and Dr.s Pre-Op appointment and there were no concerns there. *Phew* So I guess I will just pray for the best till surgery. I might just get some cold stuff just in case and I will continue to drink my green tea and sniff warm eucalyptus. :)

Hi, I was in the same position as well, over Xmas I had a real bad cough lost voice, the entire works, it was going away at the beginning of Jan, and then re appeared.

I call the clinic, and they said that as long as I didn't have a fever that it would be OK, If I did have a fever, it would be up to me if I wanted to continue, but they would ask to have a waiver signed.

Anyway, my surgery was Jan 18, and I was fine by the time the 18th rolled around, and everything was fine.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better.

Hi, I feel great, I can't wait to get a fill.

I used 3 of the Demeral out of 40 that were provided, and found that by the end of the second day, everything was fine.

I find at this point (still on full Fluid liquids- mushy food on Sat can't wait)

I AM feeling hungy, and I realize this is not the losing part of the process just the healing part, I can't wait to feel full on just a little food.< /p>

The other thing I'm finding is that I can't get all the Water down that I should be. I just have to keep trying.

No doubt, you will still lose weight during this phase becuase your calorie intake is so mimimal.

Take care and good luck!!!

Hi there

I actually did have a fever the day of surgery and I was fine. The week before I had a lymph nod that was behind my appendix that was inflamed and they almost took out my appendix!!! Anyway, they went ahead with the surgery anyway which was on Jan. 19th.

But, at the fist sign of a cold I take cold-fx for a couple of days and I am cold free. So if you sneeze again run out and get some.

Hey and DB I am in the same boat as you. Can't wait for some solid food!!!!

Cheers

Sally

Hi Yasmina

You and I are at the same starting weight and Blownaway and I have been chatting a lot since we got banded a day apart from one another. And I know someone else on here too, Tres Chic, who is going in tomorrow to be done.

Anyway, I thought I would respond as well. I had a bit of a rough go of it, but honestly, have come through just fine. I know that Blownaway has had a much better time of it. So it really does depend on the person and I think it is just the luck of the draw.

I was walking around Shoppers Drug Mart on my way home from and was up and walking around no problem. I was sore and stiff and felt a bit weird, but had friends over to watch movies the next night! I was on the coach with a big blanket, but totally up for company.

As far as food goes, I took it pretty slow and followed just what they recommended. I did not have any problems and am just now starting to get to know the feeling of the band. But, don't think I really will until I am on solids.

Now, I had really bad gas pains for a week after in my shoulders. I took a ton of Gas-x and then ended up taking a liquid ant-acid as well to help.

I would recommend getting some liquid tylenol as crushing pills was not that much fun.

I am now still on Full Fluids and am only weighing myself once a week, but feel great and am off to the gym tonight!!!

So good luck on Friday and please keep in touch!!!

Cheers

Sally

We will be tkinking of you Tres Chic!

Hello Sally, thanks for all the advice.

I asked my Dr. for liquid Codine and got a big bottle . I have noticed that you are two weeks out, do you have any pain now ? Is there anything you can't do ? Three days post op could you go out ?

(I took my liquid codeine the very first night, cause I thought I needed to be knocked out. I haven't use it once since. There was no pain that was anything that couldn't be shook off. (and REALLY, the only problem was feeling like I'd had the crap kicked out of my belly.. not a 'problem', but the only bother)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
