I am 55. Had Roux en Y on April 27. So far no complications and very little pain. Stayed in the hospital two days. Took a little Tylenol the first day home. It was a long process that started in August 2014. If you're just starting out, be patient. Your day will come. Expect to have days that you question your decision to do this. Keep moving forward. I am glad I did.

Hello,

I met with my surgeon today and we both agreed that the RNY would be best for me! Now, I just have to wait for the approval for the actual surgery! I'm very happy and I got Dr. Irani. I'm looking forward to moving forward with this :)

I'm 51 years old I had my RNY 4 1/2 months ago (2/9/15). Did experience issues palpitations, Constipation, feet and leg swelling. My recovery time was 6 weeks. My surgeon had to remove my gallbladder during surgery. Since I've started to exercise my weightloss has increased. I have lost 89 Lbs.

I was 55 when I had my surgery. Am 58 now. Started at 265, am 142 this morning. Been one of the best decisions I ever made. Did it for me but wanted to do a lot more with hubby. Then he died on me in May of last year. So life has been kinda screwed up.. A lot of things you can't control, but eating is one thing I can. So that helps me stay sane.

Gotcha beat. Lapband placed in 08 age 51. Revision to RNY 7/15 age 58. It is by far the best decision ever made. Wish my sister would consider.

I am 57. I had a lap band placed at 49, and now waiting for insurance approval for revision to rny. Wish I had done the rny to begin with and I would have enjoyed these last seven years a whole lot more,

You are making a tuff and great decision! Steep adjustment curve, old habits to new. Start or find a support group. I live in a very rural area but lots of people have had surgery.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
