Protein Shake For Dummies....

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am really dumb when it comes to these Protein Shakes. I typically think of choc, strawberry, vanilla. I have read comments about using crystal light. I am confused.. I would really like some feed back on what kinds you use and how you make it. I am not a big milk drinker, however I am sure I can make myself drink it. I would prefer to mix it with Water. I really feel dumb but I just need clarification. Also, in the powder when it list the Protein amount (20g) is that if you mix with water or milk. Thanks guys and hopefully next time I can help out someone else with this topic!!!!

Don't feel bad we all are beginners at some point. I mix my Protein Shakes with fat free or 2 % milk. I mix with milk to get more portein. I never had my shake with Water yet, always w/milk. I hate milk and never drink it so I figured if I have to it might as well be in the shake form.

The number on the package for the Protein is just in the powder. If u mix it with milk there will be more protein. I always mix mine with milk too. I don't like the taste much with Water. The two brands I have found that taste the best are Muscle Milk and Unjury. Crystal light doesn't make any Protein Drinks that I know of but Unjury does make unflavored protein which u could try and mix with a crystal light that u like.

I personally use optimum gold standard whey Protein. There are a few things to remember on Protein.< /p>

1. You want whey protein isolate as number 1 ingredient.

2. Whey protein concentrat is ok.

3. Low calorie, high protein, low filler and good taste.

Remember the rule of weight loss surgery u have to be able to sustain it log term or it's not a viable option. I too am not a milk drinker but the mocha Cappuccino and double chocolate are my favorite! I freeze them for 1 hour and it makes almost a milkshake :) yuuummm

Invest in a good shaker cup! I absolutely love my spider bottle! They sell this and the optimum gold at GNC. Get 2 bottles So u can have one at work and one at home.

Remember that your hydrating when you drink your shakes so add them into your liquid part of your daily routine.

Finally non fat milk adds 8.8 grams of protein :) per cup

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
